Azalea Picture Identification Thread

'Kokuko no Bi'
1717521600206.jpeg

Sold as 'Yubi no Kagayaki', but only has the fukurin flowers. Both are sports of 'Kokuko no Tsuki'. Other people got this 'bad sport' as well, but liked it so much, it got it's own name. Seems that is is quite stable in that it doesn't become all solid red very quickly. In fact, I saw no solid red flowers on mine. Only these bicolours fukurin/jewel border patterns.

'Yumemonogatari'

This plant is a long awkward whip. Couldn't get a good flower in the frame. Shoots were obscuring it, or my hand pushing away the shoots was. Best I could do.
Generally considered the best version/sport of Suisen. These are amazing as 1 meter tall flower towers with a couple hundred of flowers.

Found a flower peeking out at me I’d not seen before while walking past the benches in the rain. Pulled if out and took a photo The whitish color seems nome

It’s a seedling from @Glaucus ASO4ex cross
we propagated here. Initial name (at least to satisfy this thread as it seems we have naming rights)... Mark’s Magic.

Will need at least 3-5 years to check out its cuttings.

I know this isn’t an identification post, yet think azalea folks would be interested.

FROM @hir.kk

Thank you for your advice.
Based on your suggestion, I’ve decided to start handling Satsuki Kenkyu.
Once I gather enough books, I’ll list them for sale.

I just added the 1000th cultivar to my azalea database, which is now publicly available as a website:

Not my picture but Joe Klimavicz cultivar and photo credit, named after the American azalea expert: 'Donald H. Voss':

Apparently, Donald H. Voss was also a WW2 vet, an assistant professor, worked as an officer for the CIA, lots of stuff.
You can buy this plant, and others, at https://www.whites-nursery.com , if you are in the US.

Darn, White’s does not ship!

Yeah, it’s been a constant source of amazement that they continue not to want to ship.

I called Jim at Nuccios and ordered a dozen various satsuki and Karumes about a month order so back. Still the best imho for azaleas and camellias… won’t be around forever as the property sale is going to be approved but the locals in the next year or two
