2015 BSC (Box Store Challenge) Update Thread

Also, for those participating in this leg of the challenge, you only have until August 31st to post your update. If you don't post an update you will not be able to continue in the challenge. Here is a list of those that posted an update and met the requirement:

Eric Group
Alain
Paradox
Thomas22
Bones101
Vin

If for some reason I missed your name just let me know. As hard as it to believe, I'm not perfect.
..and michaelj needs added to the list.

Here is mine. Just letting it grow for now. Contemplating a serious chop since the truck seems a bit out of proportion.Bunjeh Pyracantha Beg.jpg

It's good you recognize that it's not in proportion to what would look realistic. You're either going to have to chop it or put a lot of twist in it to make it look believable. If you chop it, you may not have enough growth before judging next September. It would be chancy.

It's been quite a summer. I haven't had any time to post here at BNut :(...However, I have managed to do quite a bit of work on various trees.
This one sat until two weeks ago. I just let it grow...
I wanted to address the long straight section in the middle so...I fixed it...maybe more later.
I did some thinning.
There are 2 other large branches that I will address in the spring...
But for now...it seems happy;)

Here is the second update on my ilex, its still filled in tremendously since my first.update and needs a thinning. I did a little thinning for the update. I will thin it out a lot further in the fall and pick some main branches. Itll go in a bonsai pot next spring. Hopefully I can find a nice one for it. Screenshot_2015-08-29-20-16-09.pngbefore the cutback.Screenshot_2015-08-29-20-16-44.png as it looks today.. got to find some negative spaces in that "dome" of foliage. make some kind of layers or pads to add a feeling of maturity. Def. Gonna be a task for a 3 year beginner like me.

Here's an update on my boxwood. It's been growing fairly vigorously over the past few months. I've trimmed it about 4 times, and had to remove the wire as it was biting in. I re-potted it a little deeper without messing with the roots, and I'm trying to pull the left branch down a bit.

I'm disappointed with my lack of skill which shows with the apex of the tree. I find that middle trunk too boring, with too little taper, evidently I didn't know what I was doing with the initial styling. We'll see where this experiment goes in the future. At the end of the day it's a learning process, and it's only through mistakes that you learn what not to do next time..

But it's still alive! lol.

Okay, it's that time again. If you're one of the 11 participants listed above then your tree needs to have an updated photo posted this month. I think someone posted in another thread they lost their tree but I can't remember.

Unfortunately I'm not in the list anymore: my tree passed away last summer :(

Here is my December update. Tree is doing well. Today it is basking in the 65 degree weather we are having here in December !! It is still growing and putting out new leaves....

I would like to ask if any part of the challenge for next year involves putting the tree into a bonsai pot.
If so I think it would be best to inform us of that now so we have time to look for an appropriate pot.
Thanks
