Styled this tree at a club workshop. Really fun environment, with about 40 people working on trees. I got lucky and had the great Dave de Groot assigned to my table!

Detail wiring to come. Still unsure about that lower branch, but I think I’ll leave it on for the year to see how it grows in.
Cool! Love his book.

I started repotting my princess persimmon seedlings. I think these are 4 years old. No flowers/fruit yet.

Here’s one that needed some extra attention. (14 seedlings wired and twisted, only 2 breaks and I think only 1 might lose the branch.)

Now just 4 more trays of PP seedlings to repot.

Got ghosted in the Juniper forum so shamelessly reposting a link to my YouTube video of this tree here... give it a like and subscribe if you dig it. If not, all good. Much appreciated.

Planted 5 more tamarind seeds close together with the idea of fusing them... not sure it's possible, but why not try, they sprout so easily.

And here is the one I started in Nov. of 2024

Put em through a washer they'll fuse better into a clump and they'll ground layer and give you better roots to boot.

Did some pruning on a princess persimmon, and cut off a bunch of suckers and planted the cuttings. Eventually i will probably air layer this one, it has odd roots. Needs a repot, will probably make some root cuttings this spring as well.
20250201_203003.jpg Also pruned up an American hornbeam i had collected in the spring that had grown a ton. Split a branch that had gotten too thick to bend, luckily there are a couple buds there on the stub i left so it should regrow that branch in the spring. All of these branches were last years growth other than a portion of a couple. Honestly I thought it got pretty neglected last year, may have tossed it fertilizer twice. Wish I'd pulled that top left branch down and had pruned out some of the energy in it, had to remove it. Had healed about half way over the wound at the top already. Hoping it pushes more new buds along the trunk as well this year, I kinda like these smaller hornbeams for whatever reason. The muscular growth patterns are always interesting to me.

Checked on the garage trees. The crapes and lilac are fine. The Satsuki is questionable, maybe got too cold, we'll see.... Too early to tell if the little guys from the Arbor Day Foundation will wake up. I was most worried about the crapes, since they were used to living in Florida but they seem fine.

I moved my benches around, raked and put everything back on the benches. Smaller trees were mulched in a raised bed so I cleaned the pots too. Bigger trees were just sitting on the ground. We have zero freezing night predicted for the next 2+ weeks and some afternoons will come close to 80. I needed to able keep an eye things.

Edited to include a picture of an orchid on my windowsill that started blooming today.

I went scouting with my trusty Felco pruners. At this time of year, I'll prune back likely candidates on my hunting lease. It's mostly swamp with slightly higher edges. The edges are where the best trees are found. This button bush (not buttonwood) was trimmed back to hopefully grow this summer. I pruned quite a few of those and a few trumpet vines. Pruning back a few doesn't hurt a thing as there are thousands of these natives in the area. This one appeared to be a ground layer from a much bigger plant coming in on the slanted, right-hand branch.
