We had thunderstorms and high winds last night but no damage here luckily. A few towns away a tornado did touch down and did quite a bit of damage. Of the guys I work with's neighbor got sucked out of her house when it hit and thrown out in her yard. Her house is gone and she's in the hospital.

I pray she'll fully recover. Maybe her life was spared by not being inside the house.
There was a lady rescued when a tree fell on her house last night in my mother's town outside of Cincinnati. Praying for the safety of everyone.

97% chance of rain tomorrow. Rain likely around 9:15. That's what it said for 6am at 4:45 this morning. I'm daring to actually hope for rain this time. Screenshot_20250404_063614_Weather.jpg

Rainfall is missing since 4 weeks. Has anybody seen the clouds? They are asked for their spring duties..

75% rainfall deficit.
Guess we are in for a dry your this year. Yesterday we were grilling at 7PM in t-shirts. That is pretty uncommon for early April in my region. Normally we have spring storms with loads of water. This year I find myself watering my wildflowerseeded beds by hand, as we are at half an inch of dust already..

This image is inaccurate. I think the Guadalupe Mountains somehow interfere with the radar. It's been raining steadily here for a couple hours, but according to this, we're getting no precipitation right now. Any information I could find says we've had about 1", but considering periodic rain all day yesterday and overnight, that estimate seems really low.

This is the warmest we are supposed to get until tomorrow.

Cold? Yep. But if it's bringing rain, I'll take it.
Seems like we switched weather with @leatherback. Good day to wrap up in a blanket and watch some Growing Bonsai videos.

Woke up to snow on the ground yesterday. First significant precipitation in weeks. I've been impatient for it because usually that spring snow is a sign that garden planting is safe.
Looking over several different long range forecasts, though, tells me there's still a good chance of freezes ahead for the next couple weeks. It'd be nice to move my tropicals outside, but cold weather tends to bring more moisture, so I'll take it. Seems to be some indicators for a very hot dry summer, however. Not looking forward to that.

Over 4.3 inches of rain from the most recent storm system that passed through. Not sure what the Ohio river crested at yesterday, but typically 2-3' over flood stage from Ashland, KY to Portsmouth, OH.
Near 90° last week, mid 40s today and hard freeze tonight.

Last night was the first night we've had above freezing for quite a while. We had 2.5 days of school canceled last week because of winter weather.
I have been doing the bonsai shuffle every night with my cold frame trees so it was nice to leave them outside!

Possible maybe 50/50 chance that after midweek
we might not have frost again till Fall.
May 10th is last possible frost day here, but
that's 3+ weeks away. 2 weeks from 10 day forecast.
Time to take some cuttings before I cut back my Hollywood juniper.

Wow, that's a large swath of pretty big hail! I feel bad for all the damage that happened, but I'm glad you had the invisible shield over your own property.
