How would you use this beech?

No disagree … why would you cut down to last 2 internodes .. it’s not a European or Japanese Beech .. American Beech is vastly slower .. it’s got its own identity why everyone is so obsessed with cutting back down.
Absolutely @Shogun610 . I think the OP has a few ways to move forwards with this tree, and I look forward to seeing this progress in any way possible. I'm also very happy to see more native (North American) species being used as solid case studies. All in all a good discussion
 
Looks like it is coming along. Did you plant the saplings in there?
 
The main trunk has nice taper and sinuous lines, it will be a nice composition. You didnt think about planting those saplings into the rootbase, up tight to the main tree to make more of a clump? More feasible if there were gaps in the base. I also think your first idea of layering off the top could produce a very nice 3 tree clump. But no need now.

I did, but I decided I didn't want a clump. I wanted a small group planting. Perhaps they will fuse in time, but I like the current arrangement for what it is.
