So FedEx has been constantly screwing up my packages lately! In one months time they have broken 2 pots out of the three deliveries that I've had from them in 4 weeks time. One pot broken had a tree in it. Today, my wife calls me to tell me that my package is here, knowing that it's my Black Oak I fly home for lunch to unpack it and water it real quick. Upon arriving I see the box on my doorstep and man, I spot a huge sign of damage to the box and I'm thinking shit, they better of not broke my Oak those SOB's! So before unpacking I take pics of the damage and then proceed to unpack carefully. To my surprise the Black Oak won the fight:) Not a single branch broken and not a single leaf fell off of the tree! This guy is mucho stong and mucho beautiful! Enjoy the pics:)

WOW! You are VERY lucky that tree is still intact!!

Very nice pick up for sure. Incredible base. Do you know if it was collected? It looks like it has been in a pot for a long time. I have been looking for a deciduous oak like... FOREVER! Nothing has turned up for me yet. Congrats and enjoy this beautiful oak! :)

The seller told me that it was not collected. Tree is in it's 40's btw and is 30" tall with a massive canopy.

Yes it sure does look like it's from Roy!

He's got a really nice 40yr old Olive by David Nguy who studied under Master Kimura-san too:) I really want it but I'm shelling out a small fortune for the down payment on my new house tomorrow and I feel lucky to have been able to obtain the tree's that I have now.

Size correction, I just measured it: 22" tall from soil with a 35" canopy, 3.5" trunk and a massive 8" base!

Very nice tree but its definitely not a black oak. Looks like a variety of live oak.

Yeh looks great. Really amazing looking.

With that kinda obvious damage to the box, if I were a bit bored, I'd call them up and complain. That's not a small dent...
Do you mind me asking, in what kinda range of price that kind of tree would be?
I've no scope at all to guess on, I'm quite new to bonsai.

I also can't tell if asking the price is rude or not? Lol.

Well I looked into it and you're partly correct! It's actually a California Live Black Oak (Quercus x Chasei) and is a natural hybrid of the Coast Live Oak and the Black Oak that has been known to occur in the Central California area.

Ahhh, there's nothing like the pleasure of driving a forklift into a box marked fragile. Nice tree, good score.

I guess Ace Ventura is working for FedEx now.
Great tree!

Wow that's one lucky and amazing oak! I too am jelly as been looking for a oak for a few years now

Fedex seems to have inconsistent care from region to region. I have not shipped as many trees west as I have along the east coast, but the NJ hub for Fedex seems to be completely WORTHLESS. The beat the crap out of boxes, deliver to the wrong addresses... I am about to just swear off using Fedex all together! You were fortunate for sure, it sounds like your local Fedex people are terrible. I'd request stuff to be mailed USPS or UPS from now on if I were you... Might cost a few dollars more but it might reduce the amount of damage to your packages.
