Hi everyone!

This thread will be about development of my Japanese Quince on the rock. I don't know, if every Japanese Quince is also Chojubai or Chojubai is only some cultivar - if anybody could clear this for me?

Anyway, here are some photos of my progress. The tree is quite old, although still pencil like. I digged up it few years ago from my garden and planted on the rock. Now I am aiming for development of branches and every year take little bit of soil from top so I could reaveal more of roots on the rock as times go up.

Very nice @minkes! I love flowering quinces on rocks, I’ll be starting one next spring too.
Chojubai is a dwarf cultivar of chaneomeles.
Thanks! I have my eyes on you, you have there very good stuff to watch and learn from! ;) Now I need to find some real Chojubai to play with, mine are just probably some common cultivars.

Nothing wrong with the regular flowering quince varieties, I have a few of those too. They’re all great for bonsai, even the larger non-dwarf varieties 👍🏻

There are some reasonable ones that go on 99 cent auctions. That's where I got mine. I trust the seller. Since I own flowering quince. The foliage is definitely dwarf size.

You gotta be careful..some just don't know what they are selling. But claim otherwise. If interested. I'll shoot you the name of who sold me mine. Or go to a reputable source...like Brent at Evergreen Gardenworks. I happen to like to know what I'm buying if it's intended use is bonsai. So the auction platform was my route. Lol listen to me. Mine was an impulse buy. 🤣🙃 but I still trusted my source of sale.
