8th U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition, Rochester, NY, USA, September 9-10, 2023

That would be a difficult problem - here’s to hoping, seems like that service moves trees all over.
I’ve been using a door to door service that moves my trees from wherever to my place direct. They are also transporting via a climate controlled sprinter van so the trees have never suffered. I can get you the info if you need an alternative!

Seems like none of the local/west coast bonsai pros want to offer the service either, either unable to leave their gardens for extended periods of time, or unwilling to do the work/and deal with the liability, or scheduling conflicts.
Jonas and Matt Reel aren’t attending of have stuff in the show .

Do they move pottery reliably? 😂

I had a handful of ceramics moved last month from Denver without issue! They were larger pieces but packed well by Todd and arrived without any damage. It was only 4-5 containers alongside 7 trees(so pots weren’t the primary haul)

Please do, sent you a pm also.

Ok, sounds like covered wagon is happening, but AFTER National (for Mirai sold trees). So this would explain not taking trees to the show itself but still happening.

who wants to transport exhibitor trees from the West Coast? 😅 Lots of good money to be made but you might lose ten years off your life from the responsibility of the trip.

I was wondering how you guys were gonna get everything out there.
We rented a Uhaul box (like a moving pods box), but I'm not feeling good about it because UHaul hires 3rd party freight, and so far our experience with freight the past couple years is 1) never remotely close to being on time - even showed up to the wrong address once, and then he was off duty so we had to wait until the next day 2) 1/2" steel bolts on our kiln got bent due to less than careful forklift handling and 3) Bent legs on our spray booth, also from not careful handling. So I hope you can understand me being wary about a flexible wooden box of our pottery getting there safely. They will move the box by forklift at least four times from Oregon to Rochester, maybe more if they have weird connection points in between. And if we over cushion the pottery they take up too much space. I have it booked to arrive a week and a half before nationals to make up for delays.

I've wanted to go to Nationals for years. I'm at the point where I've got 17 days PTO to burn by the end of the year or I lose them so this felt like a great year for it. Had a snafu that looked like it was going to prevent me, but that cleared up so the possibility lives. Now something else has come up and my family's in limbo until it gets resolved.

I hope everyone in this thread (and not in this thread?) gets to enjoy an awesome show and awesome vendors. I'm holding out hope that I'll be among you guys this year.

Crossing fingers for you! It seems like some big names can’t make it, Mirai, Jonas Dupuich - makes me wonder what the attendee count is going to be like. We have pots that are making a one way trip. 😅

On that note, what size pots are you all interested in? I am bringing my mame and shohin little pots. Nao is bringing some real whoppers, fantastic sized forest trays and big pots over 25”, but we still have a couple kiln firings to go.

Any size or pot type requests?

Large and extra large. 19-30” please!

I am going. First time. I assume we just our order confirmation as a ticket? I never received anything else.
That's what I'm hoping, I haven't gotten anything else either. Last I checked I hadn't been charged for the tickets either.

14” to XL .. along with forest trays I honestly plan on getting 4-6

Also, August 1st is coming up - I am guessing prices will go up after that!

30” would have to be 32” before firing and that won’t fit in our kiln 😂. But I think we will have up to 27”, Will have to check in with @NaoTK

It appears that Saturday only tickets will not be available until August 1st.
I guess the pre-sale allotment, for the one day has sold out?
I suppose then that if I wanted to secure a ticket for Saturday, that I would have to
purchase the weekend pass?

Any cream or dark blue ovals in about 12.5”/12.75”? Keeping an eye out for something for my arakawa - I love his work!

The way I read that was they weren't selling any 1 day passes until August 1st. Availability of one day passes was subject to space left after weekend passes had been sold before August 1st.
