Artisans Cup selections

The competition as expected looks to be tight! Some fantastic pieces there to be sure although I assume once is go time the place will be more lit?

Interesting how at least one deciduous tree (looks to be a beech) is being shown leafless in September.

Yeah, I keep trying to really see that beech, but it's fuzzy when I pause the trailer. I imagine, that the leaves may not have been in perfect shape, some years they get tatty at the end. Mine this year is perfect though...
Looks like the lighting is probably good in person, just not great for photos.

Judy it is possible although in speaking with Bill, he said sometimes people do defoliate their trees to show them in their winter silhouette even out of season. He himself has done this in the past. I am thinking about that possibility if I enter next year to the Nationals. It was good for me to see it done here I guess.

I was thinking the same thing about the lighting, Judy. Looks like it's designed to be very dramatic.

For those who venture into the evil empire (aka facebook), a number of people have posted good photos to some of the bonsai groups.

The lighting is really interesting, very dramatic as someone else said. I wonder if it will be that way the whole weekend, or if that was a special event/opening.

The bonsai look really cool like this i think. Have to see in person i guess to see if its good enough but i kinda like it. The display environment really makes it look like art.
deffinatly not japanese taste, never seen like that here. Even kokufu is kinda cheap display here.
(I mean background and so)

I can report that the show is truly spectacular. The lighting is dramatic, using up and down lighting with no room lights on. The trees are all set at angles, as their floor stands are cut that way. The trees are unreal, grotesque, fantastic. The energy and buzz in the room last night was over the top. It was an emotional experience, really. I saw more than one grown man humbled almost to tears by the fact that his tree was accepted, acknowledged and among The Best last night. This has been one to not miss, and I'm glad I didn't miss it.

are there gonna be good pro pics taken? like a book/magazine?

Plan on heading up tomorrow. Tried to purchase ticket from artisans cup website. Appears to be down. Hoping to get one at museum. Otherwise, 6+ hours of driving and a day wasted.

Site back up. Tickets available at door. Should be good. Please ignore my earlier whining.

There were pro pics taken. No stone was left unturned in this show. There will be pics later, I'm told.

dark with dramatic lighting all day.
Lots of incredible trees and lots n lots n lots of rocky mtn junipers.
Seems over lots actually.
Is that the push for "american" bonsai? Rocky mtn juniper with lots of fake deadwood and curls, ribbons etc.?
Anyway majority of trees were massive and beautifully displayed.
The way the exhibition was setup one could view each tree.

Thank you all who were Involved and helped with this event for all the hrs and hours of effort that went into Designing and settiNg the stage
I wasn't finished ---my stupid tablet. Didn't mean to post yet was trying to revise my sentence

there are a lot of photo's being spread on facebook already, and bonsai empire has posted some.

there is a lot of things being said about the event. a lot of two-faceness going on ;)

That's too bad. I guess that's to be expected though. Someone will always feel jilted.
It looked very elegant. I would have enjoyed going.
I might need to get out more often. Lol

That's why the rankings were taken down less than 8hrs after being released lol >__<

I know who the lowest scorecard recipient was, and I believe that is why it was removed. May have embarrassed an ego ;)

Fortunately, that is not the same sentiment shared by all that attended. I understand many were moved to the point of controlling their emotions by the shear beauty of the trees and the way they were displayed. I certainly wish I could have attended.

So far, everything I've seen posted (mostly on facebook) has been very positive. And the photos are beautiful. Would have liked to see the show but was unable to attend.

I am looking forward to some in-depth reviews of the overall event from those who attended, as well as a list of award winners.

Chris
