I think everyone trying to convince this person that most if not all the comments are well meaning, but you can't convince someone who has made up their mind. He has decided he is offended and nothing will change his mind.

A kind word instead of one mini lecture after another would have gone a long way. And to be clear, the original problem post was inappropriate in a sale thread.

You know what else would have gone a long way? A less hysterical, less personal and less unhinged response to rather inoffensive responses. A simple pointed "thanks for the critique" and asking that suggestions be moved to private messages would most likely have avoided all of this. Might also have been an actual learning opportunity if the seller had asked for more input from John G. Now, that avenue is most likely shut down given the hysterical personal and repeated attacks.

Don't know if this person is 12 years old, but the reaction certainly would give me pause about buying much of anything from them. What if there was a problem with shipping, or someone (God forbid) asked for their money back (which is hardly uncommon with stuff sold online--have had it happen to me with bonsai stuff for no real reason).

I am going to respectfully disagree. The "for sale" threads on this site are not "let the buyer beware". If you want an anonymous (and silent) experience, I would go to a site that offers that - either Facebook auctions, eBay, or whatever. If you post "for sale" on this site, feedback and commentary, as long as it is respectful and constructive, is going to be allowed. If you post a bunch of stumps in pots - describe them as such and no one will make a peep.

I would hate for someone on this site to buy a tree, have it die on him/her, and then have people say (after the fact) "oh I was worried about that but I didn't want to speak up and hurt someone's feelings".

Putting the onus on the original aggrieved party is silly. Their first reaction was fairly appropriate for the post made in his sale thread. Nor should it be on them to direct opinion comments to be moved to PM.

Also, the exchange was done, both side said their peace, then the PG rolled right in.

This exact nonsense is why many forums don't allow off topic posts on sale threads.

Hey, it's your site man, your rules 👍

I believe the trees in question were obtained by the. O.P. for free at the end of someone’s driveway a month ago. If I’m wrong please correct me. Given they were being discarded, it’s hard to say whether the BC’s were in good shape. Were they watered? What condition were the roots? I think it may have been prudent to see how they do after a recovery from the street and major pruning before selling them. Hopefully, they will do well and everyone is happy. BC’s look to be pretty tough little trees.
