When to join an exhibition

what does it look like today? id be aiming for a higher level of refinery and id have been more ruthless hacking those tall trunks back. guess it all boils down to your aspirations re when is the best time to exibit a tree, i would of thought a good time would be when your tree is close to being a finished or well ramified and refined tree.

not a huge lonicera fan, they do make good bonsai though, this is probably the best one ive seen in recent times, i would say this one is on its way

that tree is four years from collection

Good point. Important it, I think, that this is not a nitida. The plant I have here now has 5th order ramification. I do not think it will go any further with the size of the foliage pads I have on there.

I think as long as the tree is in reasonable condition, it's good to show. Already it's pushing you to see the tree in a perfected condition. Showing trees makes you lift your level of quality and push yourself to next level techniques, and seeing the tree as others see it.

Nederlandse Bonsai Show in Hazerswoude-Dorp I think. 15&16 sept

I went there this weekend and have to say I was a bit disappointed
The exhibition @Danny use (Ginkgo) was a lot more interesting!

@leatherback I think the tree is definitely presentable and will not draw any 'weird' comments. Goodluck with the show!

Not the best tree in the show, but in the grading it ended in the middle of the field. Happy enough with it. Certainly not the worst in show either, to my pleasant surprise. And received som e good feedback on ohw to improve the tree the next years. Good times

That's great. Just being part of it can help to motivate you, and step up your game. And getting critique and other viewpoints is golden. Cheers!

Did I mention the venue was amazing?

The winning tree, by Bastian Busch (Happy to note he is the son of the person I follow classes with, and who will take over the Dusseldorf Bonsai Museum)

A clump style japanese maple I would love to have. By bonsai museum dusseldorf:

Really nice Jelle, what was the feedback that you got?
Thx Ruben.

Advice was to focus on further developing the bttom branches, as they are fairly light. Furthermore, the top level small branch should be removed to add to the sense of left-to-right flow. To keep the tree with clear identifiable segments of foliage, but let them grow out a little bit to get a better balance between foliage size and pad size. And some comments on the health of the plant. But with the summer we have had I was happy I could show it with leaves on! They were scruffy though due to the hot summer.

Nice future plans, yeah this weather unbelievable. Today also, it's drying really fast.

3, and helped with the setup a bit. I'm a student of Danny so it is the ideal way to learn to exhibit. My trees didn't raise the level of the show?

Aahaa that explains a lot!
So am I since a few months ago.. guess we'll run into each other at some point then. :)
