What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

I am traveling to spend the weekend at John Eads' farm for our growers class. Currently on a food break.

I don't have much to show bonsai related on that front, so instead here is a picture of an owl I carved awhile back that I use as an anxiety relief. I call it my worry owl.

Emergency repot of my ficus Wiiandi cutting and cut back some of the leggy winter growth. Replaced the tiny pot with an Iker pot, giving it more room and hopefully it won't get knocked/fall off wiiandi repot.jpgand break like the other one.

I bought a big tree.
It's got a 5-6" diameter trunk, tiny leaves, and fantastic pink new leaves.

If anyone can suggest what cultivar it might be, thatd be great. I'm going to try and air layer some of the larger branches.

Going to get a close up of the leaves when it gets delivered.

Hacked up my fukien tea. Have it for 3 years. One of the big box stores 50% off of half dead before it's fully dead. It's so strange I can't make up my mind about it. Last summer it was 4' tall. Grew a lot over winter too.
Trunk is not really thickening that much, hut new growth gets coarse very fast.

Thought that was a Quince !!

Not technically today, but .. first day really back on the forum.
I did some major carving, grafting and ensuring I did not get rootrot on one of the two main supporting lower trunks. Now no bending of the limb for 3 weeks, ensuring the graft takes, after which training will start again, to get back to full strength in 6-12 weeks.

What happened to your leg?

Just uploaded a new video documenting the entire, step-by-step restoration process of this Juniper loaned to me by a local artist here in SoCal.

Go check it out if you have a few minutes... and if you do, don't forget to like, comment and maybe even sub. It really helps the algorithm from burying the video.

As always, the support from the community here is super appreciated...

Kyle

Wow cool. It was already in my watch later list! Will definitely check it out

Cleaned and sharpened my tools in preparation for my shift at the Lynden Bonsai Collection. Then I ended up applying fertilizer, and doing soil surfce maintenance not really needing my tools. We are caught up on tree work.

When I water I go over everything once then I do individual trees watering until the water comes out the drainage holes. Then I go through each tree and check for dead/damaged foliage or debris from the nearby trees. I clean up debris or weeds on the soil surface then I thin the moss and scrub it off the bark if it's creeping up.

Then the curator clarified that she wanted me to weed the rocks in the display area. One of the jobs that I don't find all that pleasant, but it has to be done so I did it. The interesting thing about decomposed granite is that it has a high gold content and the stuff we have is really full of gold so you have to wear gloves or your hands will be gilded for a day.

I was biking to the baseball diamond to collect some cushion moss, but I spotted a kitten in the grass. Well it wasn't a kitten, but a sick baby raccoon laying in the sun and it is 90°F. After a call to the humane society they said it likely had distemper and gave me detailed instructions on how to safely catch it and put it into a box because they don't have staff for wildlife. So I quickly grabbed a little bit of moss before biking home to get raccoon catching supplies and drove back to the park to scoop up the baby and drive them to the wildlife rehabilitation center.

I only got half a flat of moss, but I helped a little guy out so it's still a win.

I tried to go back to get more moss but there was a baseball game and I didn't want to poke around under the bleachers while people were sitting in them. So I biked to the 100+ year old European beech grove. Got some cuttings from a massive beech branch that snapped off recently. Got some Hackberry cuttings and saw a turkey with some babies.

Maybe I will be able to get moss tomorrow.

I played around with some arrangements of this group that I separated in the spring. Also updated my collection thread, inspired by @Shogun610 . Ball’s in your court my friend.

It’s time to ask for bonsai addiction help when…just kidding, I love to see it buddy. While traveling this weekend, I spent all my down time documenting my trees or napping.
