70mph winds ripped thru and did some damage. This 50yr old Taxus was already weak was put in my ICU grow bed.

Just before Easter I cut some branches of a crabapple tree that I have in my garden to attempt propagating it from cuttings. I cut both new growth and stablished branches (2” diameter). I applied roots hormone, stuck the cuttings on coconut coir and closed them in a plastic box. I had to travel on short notice just after that and today on my return I opened the box. To my surprise all cuttings pushed new leaves out.

I have just moved them to pots and a bigger box.

Also transplanted the Chinese Pea seedlings and my daughters’ sun flowers that we sowed during Easter.

Potted up a wee Blue Atlas Cedar:

It's finally reliably staying above freezing at night, so I moved the Bald Cypress up from their overwintering spot in the basement - my back is currently arguing for them braving the garage next year, but it DOES freeze solid out there at least a couple times each winter.

Also greeted my little friend, who just resurfaced from wherever s/he overwinters!

Looking good! :) Your BC is more leafed out than mine. I kept my BC (zone 4 hardy) outside during the winter and yes it was frozen solid a few times. Just remember to give those BC some dormancy they need, before you wrestle them into the basement.

Pic tax is the best thing about my River birch...the bark.

Trying to make lemonade out of this one. I was warned not to birch and here I am...using my human nature to not listen...like an idiot. 🤣

BCs are looking good.

Minor thinning on this FIVE! yr old JWP from seed.
Was a 2 yr old seedling from Julian Adams 2022.
This was the runt of the 2 or 3 he sent and the lone survivor.

I can't wire it due to its size but the trunk needs it,
just for the sake of age alone.
I will try this Fall.

Repotted my absolute dumpster fire of a Scots pine. I bought it at a discount last year because it was having some health issues. It was weak and constantly infested with something. The pot it was in was too light and it fell off the bench a few times. I repotted it today even though it was infested and found the roots an absolute disaster. This pot is almost too big for what was remaining.

This tree must have been slip potted about four or five years ago into a landscape fabric lined pot. So much swearing happened. I cursed the family lines of every person who neglected this tree before me.

I really hope it lives.

Spent the day prepping the Lynden Bonsai Collection for opening day next week. We repaired rusted display stands, swept the building, and cleaned up trees.

I got to prep this trident maple and Japanese white pine.
