Potted up chestnut seedlings grown from nut collected last fall. Removed nuts per @19Mateo83 suggestion not to incite squirrels and mice next winter.

Here's a Hinoki cypress "torulosa nana" that is in early development. I removed about 2 gallons of foliage, but you can barely tell the difference. Did not touch the bottom 1/3 of the tree because I am hoping to get more caliper down there before I remove the low growth.

Hinoki Project, thuis is a newly acquired tree that I found in a local landscape nursery. I rarely find older trees that stop me and insist that I take them home. This was one of those exceptions and I fully expect a few challenges. What caught my attention first was the Base ( 6 inches diameter ) trunk movement lower down, Lots of foliage with new shoots closer in to the trunk. What gave me pause initially was the size ( I swore off larger trees some time ago due to old age and infirmities)
After some initial clean up of old needles and dead twigs I have put together an initial plan.
First major step will be repotting early spring. I expect to have a few surprises with this one as it is older, in a very large container and labeled BB. Ball and Burlap placed in a large container after being dug from the field. My understanding is the tree was field grown in Oregon, purchased this past spring and shipped to island as a specimen landscape tree. It is currently 39 inches tall, my plan is to airliner off the top, create a new apical leader for taper and movement for the top. I envisage the finished tree to be approximately 24 inches overall.
I cannot lift the tree, took a two wheel dolly and two persons to load. Expect the Ball and Burlap to contain " clay like field soil surrounded by bark and potting soil mix. Unless there is rock in the bottom of the container to weight it down. Water does not sit on the surface and it seems to drain fairly well, will find out about the core in the spring. Expect two to three repots before it fits into a suitable Bonsai container! IMG_3870.jpegIMG_3869.jpeg

Fed all the trees with brown juice. At 2 oz per gallon, it took half a gallon. My entire back yard smells like NYC Chinatown fish market.

Dwarf crepe myrtle given to me by @Mellow Mullet. It was struggling last year so I repotted to a terracotta pot. It is doing well.

Collected 2 years ago, this Mayhaw is among my best. It has been given to a friend. I will wire it for him this fall. The nebari is a whole lot better than shown here. It is under a layer of bark for protection under this high heat.
I will be looking for a suitable pot for it next time he repot.
