Tried removing the spray paint from the city on one of my parkway trees they marked for removal. I reported the ash tree for dead branches but they marked the wrong one. As I was scrubbing away at the spray paint with a wire brush I got attacked by what I thought was flies and then ran when I realized what it was. This tree isn't going anywhere right now. I had to put up a sign because the bald-faced hornets were swarming everyone that walked by

I visited Todd Schlafer’s garden, as I’m in town visiting my sisters. I didn’t really take many pictures of trees, as I spent most of the time talking to him and just looking.

Whenever I visit professional gardens, I’m usually looking for some tricks and tech that they’re using. You can pick up a lot by paying attention to what others were doing. The biggest new thing for me was the rim around pots, which he uses on rootbound or hydrophobic trees to raise the water column to make watering easier.

It’s been a crazy few months and haven’t had a chance to sort through photos but today I got a chance to try out the new hydraulic cart to move a rather large Sierra into the house to be worked on.

Looks awesome. Also all Husbands on here would like know how to get away with this. :)

Trimming a tree during football commercials is a dream of mine.

Lol! Being able to do it in the middle of the house is definitely a huge plus as I can still multi task, especially when I need my desktop while on the phone.

The trick is… to not watch football 😂

After schlepping thru Chicago Botanical Gardens with trees, I too invested in some new wheels:

No hydraulics, but it has cup holders...😁😁😁

Details on the cart please? Easy to find hydraulic carts. Hard to find them with balloon tires.

Did some rewiring of a wee little BAC I picked up at the AABS show last weekend. It arrived to me with some partial wiring:

It had begun to bite, so I removed it (there is a wound at the graft site but it looks to have been healing nicely for a while now):

Rewired - didn't do much to the lower branch since it was already nicely curvy, but tried to get the upper branch to come along for the ride.

Repotted a Chamaecyparis pisifera tsukumo, three-trunk style into a Japanese pot (Ichiyu Sansyu). I bought the pot from Judy B, here. Thank you @JudyB !

I'm following some of Harry Harrington's recommendations on repotting Pines, Junipers, etc. late summer & early fall, since I'm in a similar climate as England.

Not to mention, IIMG_5152.jpg have too many trees to get to all of them in one spring potting season. This one still needs some wire and styling. Wish I had gotten the planting angle a little more spot on to highlight the three trunks. See second pic.IMG_5155.jpg

I was watering my trees the other when I noticed this funky little guy. I apoglise for the quality. The phone wouldn't focus on the subject.

Anyways, this is a Korean Fir 'Ice Breaker' that I repotted in the spring. The interesting thing to note on it is that a root grew out of the substrate, into the air, and then back down.

Picked up a big acer sieboldianum yesterday evening. I just hope it will survive. They took it out the ground a week ago and placed it in a big tub, but when I came home I had to take it out the tub filled with very heavy wet gardensoil because it did not have drainage holes in the bottom..I wondered why it was so heavy.

Ive bought it for a small price, and since its quite rare I had to take it, even if odds are against me.
😵
