This is my accidental alder planting, just seeds that popped up in an old hanging basket pot. They got so tall they kept falling out of the pot and not getting watered.

So it got chopped and watered. Hopefully it recovers from a few days dry, because I'm digging the neberi.

I miss this tree everyday:).
Bet you miss all of the trees you've worked on for years, and have a touch of regret every time one is loaded up.

Gave the bc i bought from you a bit of a haircut as well. Amazing how vigorous the tree is @johng

Carved off the dead portions of this huge honeysuckle I collected in the spring as well a couple days ago, base is 9 inches across

Excellent BC John.

I went to Matthaei Botanical Gardens to see the Ann Arbor Bonsai Society Bonsai Show. Here's some pictures of the trees in Matthaei Gardens. I took some pictures of the trees in the show, but I messed up somehow & only a few came out,

Getting near fall, which means tight wire needs removing. Here’s a mountain hemlock that I’ve been working. I got it for a steal because of the crossing branches, but I quite like how they look.

Those two low crossing branches were actually touching when I got it—I used a guy wire to lift them apart, and I think it’s done a solid job.

This image shows the back of the middle branch of that cluster. Wire bite is your friend, as long as its on the back 😉

Did some cutting back on my magnolia. I think next year I'm going to cut some things back harder to get a more compact silhouette and get more light down to the lower branches.

I've always liked this branch because it was substantial, but it has a long run before it has any foliage. So it might have to go.

Initiated an air layer on a Sangukaku a couple months ago, last pic how it looked today. More moss was added (about doubled the initial amount) after about a month.

Mortared some seiryu stones together as mediums for some landscape/penjing-esque projects next year. I even found a pre-mixed cement product in a small tub that was perfect for the scale of the project. Two of the "landscapes" I have plans for already, largest one I think I'll sleep on until lightning strikes.

Spent the day yesterday working on some trees at the super secret AAC meet-up. Kevin got better photos than I did.

Cleaned up and wired some branches on my Potentilla that ended up with some dieback when I missed it watering. What a bummer. It might need to go into a training pot next year to recover.

Then I forgot to take photos of my black hills spruce that I was working on.
Discussed azalea care.

And remember folks, if you're using #4 copper wire get a spotter

Saw some slight evidence of wooly pine scale on my little pitch pine so I sprayed it with neem.

Then I put some toys away, emptied a bar set off the trailer, pulled the garbage to the curb...

Then after 25 min or so, hosed the pine down and back on the bench. Should be good as new. Piece of advice, always have a spray bottle of neem around for quick action!!
