Last weekend I moved the arakawa JM airlayers that I bought from @Tidal Bonsai in Sep 24. Didn't do a lot of root work, just loosened them up and removed most of the organic substrate to allow a quick recovery. I also moved the Korean hornbeam that I bought from Brent in Dec 24. I did removed quite a bit of roots as the rootball was very tight.

Yesterday I received 5 (6 actually) large bareroot JMs from Matt O and moved them into pouches. I made one clump and an individual tree with the one that had the most amount of roots. I wrapped the trees in quite a bit of teflon tape than wrapped them with aluminum wire.

They look great!

Went to Green Thumb Bonsai in Greenville, So.Carolina. Spent the day there. John Green and I put up a 20 X 20 shade cloth to try and replace a 65 year old Pecan tree that covered almost the entire nursery.

I potted up a Cotinus I picked up from Wentworth Nursery yesterday. About half the branches were dead. I told the Manager it was half dead and asked if it was in the Hospital Section. Before I could say anything else, she said "$5.00, we will mark it as a gift." I asked several times if she was sure and she kept saying "Yes, take it off my hands", so I brought home a half dead $150.00 Cotinus for $5.29. I trimmed up the tree (there was still green under the bark) and got it into a bonsai pot. The trunk at the soil line is 3" in diameter. Cinder Block and original pot for scale.
Time will tell if the $5.00 was worth it.

I wish!!
I guess this manager just really likes me or is trying to clear out the Hospital Section. I have gotten 5 trees from them in the last two months. 4 of them from the "Hospital Section". The list prices for the trees is over $800 and I have paid just under $150.00 for all of them. I got a $300 Arborvitae for $10, the $150 Cotinus for $5, a $300 Japanese Maple for $99, a $40 Bayberry for $5, and when I was joking about a Flowering Almond being in the Hospital Section, the cashier gave me 10% of on it. The J. Maple will go into the yard but I have taken cutting from it to bonsai.
