Pruned this huge maple. Marked air layer sites (6 good ones!), and then wired the part that is going to be the final tree. Still needs some touch ups, and maybe some wiring of the air layers, so I’ll post a final later.

A few busy days (or more to come this week) without time to post:
* Took all trees out of winter protection since we will have temperatures in the 60s and 70s all week with lows only around 40.
* Sifted pumice and akadama.
* Repotted a dwarf Hinoki.
* Pulled all of the 2 1/2 year old pine seedlings out of their pond baskets to sorrt out the roots, then returned them with the original soil to the same baskets [7 JRP and 4 JBP).
* Removed a yardadori red camelia from the colander where it's been for 2 years and potted it for the first time.
* Removed a crabapple from it's pond basket and potted it in a shallow terra cotta pot , aiming for a slant style like a fallen orchard tree.

Checked on the garage trees and noticed the Little Miss Kim Lilaclilac bud.jpg @Underdog most kindly gave me is budding out. It's early here, I'm sure winter isn't done with us yet. We have a week of 70's this week, so I'll have to be careful if we get really cold again. But I'm so happy it made it through the worst of winter here.

Geez, Am I the only one around here has to work 40 hours a week? 😕

I'm retired at age 73, but I worked until I was 70....mostly because a felonious CFO stole from my 401K (as well as 12 others in our little construction company)

Picture tax: JBP that I repotted last week.

This last weekend was a beautiful. Sunny, around 70, with a light breeze off the ocean... So nice. This is why I pay so much to live here.

Got lots of trees repotted. Everything seems to coming alive or is right about to. Buds are popping and candles are elongating.

This is my first air-layer, which I potted last year. It's finally about to get it's new leaves! :D

Ive moved places in december and changing the garden to make it more child friendly. I also dislike plants that completely die-off in winter and give lots of rubbish. Plan is to plant evergreens, gras in the middle and maples. Also some bird attracting plants (another hobby lol).

Hopefully ill get it planted before the planting season ends, and putting in some more of my japanese maple collection.

Also added a before from the previous owner.

When finished, hopefully I have more time to do actually something with bonsai.

Dealt with a different type of trunk chop - this one by Mother Nature. Ripped all wires out of the house and landed on the back of my car. Seemed like a good excuse to stay home and continue with the repotting.

is the idea to use the cuts to bend them?
No, it's about large branch/leader removal. Ebihara would cut large notches and use the continued sap flow to the sacrifice branch/leader to help heal the remainder faster than otherwise. I figured it would be worth trying on these hornbeams because they're so reluctant to close wounds. On the trunk side of each cut, I've put a thin painted-on layer of Kirikuchi, then covered it in with aluminum foil tape. Kinda throwing every wound healing trick in the book at these trees to see how they do. Eventually, the remainder is cut off and you've got a smaller wound to heal than otherwise

Repotted this zelkova and did a great on it, all the work on it for a while - my first thread graft, crossing my fingers it takes
