What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

Took the initial wires off my Cmeg kabudashi siberian elms a little bit ago, spent some time today looking at them trying to figure out what to do next. Unlike most species, these almost grow too fast. Insane how much size they've put on in the last month or two. IMG_8350.jpgIMG_8351.jpg

Happy Friday!

We trimmed back a Trident (Domoto) maple… took two of us all morning. Shown while taking a distance check break.

Then pinched a Coastal Redwood. Sorry no image too busy… but finished it.

Finally began pinching a Western Hemlock. Before and after top section pinched.

Last Friday one of the jobs was to curare a Satsuki nebari and clean up the trunk before placing it in public view.

You were talking about your anniversary... I interpreted your statement the same way Carol did 😂
You & @Carol 83 interpreted it correctly, I was just messing with Carol because it's fun messing with your Bnut buddies. :) Also one of the emojis is the lying one.

Finished my new bonsai bench thanks to @jeremy_norbury sharing plans. Added a few extra shelves, a little wrap around near the top for the small ones and an extra one underneath for the warm then cold strat seeds. Used the cut-off ends from the shelves to make a few pedestals that I'll still have to work on arranging.

Here’s a Chinzan I’m slowly growing out. This was after cutting it back from a blob it had grown into this year. Once the apex starts to take shape I’ll wire out the branches. (Ok, maybe before then.) I’m pleased with the thickening happening in the apex with the sacrifice and extra pot size this year.

  • I took cuttings of Ume, then wired up some of last year's cuttings, realizing pretty quickly that I shouldn't have waited so long as they were pretty snappy. (Even when I doubled up on the wire.) Cuttings into the fridge for a month or so.
  • Made a few decisions as to what I'll be growing in my growbeds this spring.
  • Finally cut off an area of my corkbark elm I'd intended to airlayer ...but waiting on doing that was becoming a hindrance to its development. I think the resulting trunkline has some promise.
Here’s a follow up. ~80-90 cuttings. I would estimate <10 didn’t root.
