What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

Maybe not bonsai in the end, but this acer addict returned from a weekend in Asheville and some nursery fun. Got Bihou, Geisha Gone Wild, Wildfire, and Ikandi on clearance for 65% off! Perfect shopping weekend in every way, then returned home for a day of cool rain to perk them all up.

Second dump score in as many weeks (love the little "swap shop" they have). First time coming across a holeless bonsai pot.

Weird, but cool find. You gonna put holes in it?

I found this bowl that looks roughly like Namban pottery on the outside, with a brilliant blue on the inside, stamped "Randi" on the bottom...

But I think I like it too much to modify. It would pretty much require a base of some kind anyway.

I didn't buy it my girlfriend did. She went to Lows and came home with a bunch of stuff. She said I got you a bonsai it was on their reduced rack. It doesn't say what species it is just says it's a bonsai. It's in rough shape but has green growth down low. She said it had long leaves on it but they all fell off. She found the roots to be interesting so bought it for me. I'm not 100% sure what it is. I'm thinking a serrisa maybe? It needs lots of work. Probably cut back to first branch or lower.20251101_161708.jpg

Bought a very old boug the other day. It had broken through the pot and was ground growing so wasn't happy when moved. Ended up repotting it once home (roots not great) then defoliating most of it the next day. Pic is pre defoliation. Just starting to get warm here so hopefully it will bounce back.

Yep, serissa foetida. Just be careful not to overwater or let the roots sit in water at this stage and it should bounce back.

Thank you. Yes I have several others I've keep alive for years. What had me confused is she said when she picked it up it had long leaves like my willow leaf ficus but they all fell off.

@RJG2 and @Attmos
I would avoid using pots with glaze on the inside of the pot.
Yeah, I've heard that many times. 🙂

But I'm an innovative and industrious craftsman... Removing the glaze on the bottom inside of a dish is kind of labor intensive, but not hard to do. Removing all the interior glaze isn't tough either, relatively speaking.

Repurposing used objects for their form and function actually has a name.... "Guerilla Design"... You 'muscle' random, used, or discarded material into useful and beautiful functional items. Like Namban.

I found this beautiful little gosai-e pot on ebay, overglaze paint. Went through all the hanko on the Japanese potter marks site, and couldn't find the maker. Not on/dont do Facebook. Anyone recognize the potter?

Tentatively identified as Joshu Katsuyama, 勝山, finding a similar chop, and similar styles of painting:
