The Tree Thread

What is your plan for that really large first branch/third trunk on the left? To me it seems a little awkward so I am curious what your intent with it is.
It’s funny that it’s natural, but in bonsai it may be considered awkward. I actually love it. Looks good Serg.
@Kievnstavick this is the tree thread, so each post is supposed to include a photo of one of your trees.

Opps, sometimes I forget which threads are the picture per post and just the regular threads.

Indeed the in the scope of bonsai, some very natural growths and forms are considered/appear akward or strange. The artist then gets to decide if they want to embrace the weirdness or revert back to the standard.

Thus is the fluidity of being an art form xD

Here is my 'Flaky' Fir just before summer. I am attempting an airlayer in the apically dominant branch (picture was taken pre-layering).

I quite like that branch... or rather trunk. If it's removed, you tame the tree and it's not as interesting IMO. On these wild collected pieces, part of the challenge is to keep their "wildness" while still giving them some sense of refinement. Nature is not always graceful!

Arakawa about to get a cutback. June is the perfect time to do post spring work on deciduous trees in the upper most regions of the US.

This Beech layer has produced a neat ring of roots a bit higher than the initial cut at one of its rings...
If there is also roots at the original cut, might be that I change the design plan and plant at an angle to preserve everything
Been watering my layers every day now, one of my elm layers is bursting with roots, I feed the trees and layers all the same, at each watering.

Fagus sylvatica, European beech.

This tree is young, and trunk still green. It has a nice root base and good taper. The branches are well positioned. Will keep it as a "tall" mini tree.

I just nicked the bottom of this callus with a sharp blade, and packed back in with moss, it did produce one root! Lets see how it reacts. The small stump is about to push a bud from where it was chopped too!
