$15 dollars....mixed in with a bunch of Encore Azaleas....this non-Encore.
Sticker says Autumn Moon Pink/White.
Irresistible to me.
Also, there were a few others, but this was the ONLY one with a single trunk. The others were all messy clumps of 1/8" to 1/4" twigs, while this one has a single trunk about 1" across.
I'll let it finish blooming and hack it down to size.

nice score MikeB

Had never bought a plant from Walmart but this spring I found a Nidiformis birds nest spruce there. In a 5 gal container for $20. I had been eyeing one at Lowe’s from the exact same grower, the exact same size and same great movement, health and trunk caliper for $45! Almost bought a blue spruce the same day!

I did a light repot and thinned the foliage. That was about a month ago. It is as healthy as I’ve seen a spruce! I’ll try and post a few pics later.

Nice find!

Thanks, yeah.....I love those little Nidiformis Birds Nests.
I had 2 several years ago....can't seem to keep them alive.
Yours looks happy though!
Haha. I’ve got 2 now. A small and little. I’m opposite though, i had several azalea years ago, but I can’t seem to keep Them alive!

Keep it out of full all day sun for a few weeks.
It’s been over a month now actually. It’s still in a relatively filtered sun. Nice morning sun and filtered from midday on. It seems to have really taken. I’m always encouraged when I see calousing like this and usually indicates healthy root growth in my experience.

Didn’t mean to hijack your thread Mike. Just thought I’d share something I found at Wally World also!

what’s your next step with the azalea? Will you do anything now or wait till spring next year?
No no no, that's exactly what I was hoping people would do. I'll make a new thread for it when I start working on it, which will probably be in a couple of weeks.
My plan is to scrape away the soil until I can find the nebari, then saw a way at the bottom part of the roots to take away the bulk.
I'll probably do the pie slice method, it's almost like half bare rooting for an azalea.
I'll cut back the branches at the same time.

@johng style.

Dude. I’ve tried so many times to JohnG big box azaleas and killed more than I care to admit. I stopped trying about 5 years ago. Those johng azalea videos got me hooked on bonsai when I was first starting.
Good luck with this one.

nice find at wally world - purples ones of my fav colors

@Hartinez mentioned blue spruce, i saw one yesterday at home depot that was pretty amazing (large natural bonsai style, not xmas tree shape) for $79...im tempted to go buy it today! it looks like something that could make a great bonsai with very little work, and 3"+ trunk. not cheap but i have seen less-tree for more money many times

Pretty flowers on that one. Our closest Wal-mart had zero azaleas, and pretty slim pickin's in general.
Yeah... Walmarts here look much more futuristic as of late... 1940’s sci-fi style!!! Always looks POST-loot, also... many empty spaces, with FILTHY floors.... filthy.

I always said that Walmart hummed with Evil, and if you listened, you could hear it... 🤣🤣 (half a joke, half too real for most to understand)

🤓

(Kind of a “catch 3.14157”... because I am “poor” by monetary standards.. I utilize the bloody “superprices” out of necessity!)
🤣🤣
