So... This tree still haven't leafing out yet but the bark still green when scratched, I've been putting a bag over it and still nothing...I even soaked it in HB-101 several times... Anyone has any ideas?

I bought a Chinese elm from Florida and let's just say it wasn't a big fan of Wisconsin winters. Took until the end of June to leaf out so don't give up yet.

Excited to start getting this JBP a little more refined this year.

A contoneaster with berries that should turn from green to black

This started as blindly-ordered-from-the-internet nursery stock 3-4 years ago and at one point I wanted to trash it. It’s now one of my favorites. The pot is nothing other than green/blue. The berries on this one should ripen to black, and is not the standard cotoneaster.

Ginkgos grown from seedlings collected from a local hardware store garden (with permission).

Love the trunk on this one, probably thanks to the gardeners lopping its head off as a tiny sapling. Interesting thin, long leaves.

Taller skinny one, still well under 20cm

They’re on their way!

This was a seedling I got from Valavanis a few years ago, it’s only seen a pot. I’m trying to build lower foliage and letting a leader run, but they can’t run that far in a small pot

These are JBP seedling cuttings from last year, they’re strong but I won’t be able to wire them til next spring. Branching should be lower as they get old enough to be bonsai.

Of about 100 seeds, this is what I got from red pine this year, which I plan to make seedling cuttings from. There were about 50 seeds in this pot started late, and 50 in another started early that a squirrel fucked up

These are all being intentionally grown for shohin, so thought it would be fun to share. We need more red pine!

Chinese quince I bought from Shannon Salyer four years back. Shaggy now but letting it build strength. Heian Kosen pot.

I read you should repot these once a year so I did on year 2. Pot was pretty full but could def have taken a second. This is now the second year after repotting that time.

It doesn’t throw out very long growth so maybe I should put it in a deeper grow pot or small wood box next year to let it build strength? Kinda like how it’s doing as-is tho, curious as to opinions

Chinese quince are heavy feeders so try adding a balanced fertilizer at least once a week.

The heat and humidity are bad today so I brought this guy in to continue wiring.
