Maybe if there was a colon it can be more title like. Nao Tokutake’s wife: Mary. But I think some parentheses for tact can go a long way if I really have to ride coat tails e.g. Surface decoration by Mary J. Lai (spouse of Nao Tokutake, maker of the pot- which he didn’t get credit for)

Maybe my name isn’t sellable ? Sometimes to give it some spice I use my middle initial but no one knows what it stands for, Homer J. Simpson Style: Mary J. Lai. And the Lai is pronounced the same way it is pronounced in Mary J. Blige (my rapper nickname in the korean club in my undergrad lol). Welp and this is why I have the business name Sansokuu if people really want a brand to refer to.

I remember this pot, it is a rare one when Nao was dabbling in kutani ware. Honestly feel like we undervalued it when we sold it for $125-175sh I forget.. I need to draw more quail with confused expressions.

And I 100% agree with the opinions on wording in the other thread. Things they don’t tell women when they get married or have kids, you hand in your individual identity cause you can’t be your own person, a mom, and a wife all at once.

I also have a terrible poker face, so please tell me what expression I am making when people ask ‘oh, you do pottery too?’, since I was the one that introduced Nao to ceramics in the first place, just have had zero time to actually make ceramics.

This is really upsetting to hear. I've seen many women around me struggle with this, and it seems really quite pervasive. It's especially odd given the remarkably refreshing individuality and femininity in your work.

Sadly I was never aware of it until I experienced it myself. Everyone expects moms to be gracious and kind and patient, like we aren’t allowed to have feelings or be burned out or feel unappreciated. My own mom full on embraced being a mom/housewife and that was her identity, but it really isn’t for me, especially when all I hear is her griping at my dad how they don’t have enough money All the both parent working friends I had so much better off in their retirement but I digress.

As for my work, I try to make things these days that I truly enjoy. People tend to gravitate towards artists and crafts people who do that, they can really feel the joy in the work. I hope that comes through in my stuff.

Again, of course you can. I believe your child is young from some of your comments? They grow up in a flash. One minute they are creating havoc in your studio when you are trying to paint a pot, the next they are glued to their phone, computer, out with their friends, etc. And you will wishing for the chaos of those younger years.
