The 2024 Yamadori/Collecting Thread

Seems like a good tool for serious yamadori collectors
I dunno. I do my walk about in the woods with my root slayer as my walking stick, pistol in my holster for the wild hogs, a bush knife, a folding prune saw, and some paracord. Ain’t got room for that heavy thing.

It’s very dependent on your location .unlike Cajunrider I’m not in the swamp . Pic is just for reference if I need shears . I use the collapsible handle version of the tool on the left . Synthetic handle makes it compact and light . Blades are replaceable and or sharpen . And it’s cheap enough for brutal jobs in the dirt .

Went to the crawfish pond with my recip saw and a bagful of batteries. I cut down a boat load of willows that were blocking sunlight from the BCs. It was a chore to drag those trees to shore. I wound up with 2 small and one medium BCs that I removed to create space for the big BCs. Pics to come later.

Collected this today. No idea what it is. Put it in the shade for now. Open to any advice.

Wired this twin pair (twinning pair?) of American hornbeams that I put together in a 16" square grow box 2 weeks ago. I've been walloped by a bad cold and just now had the energy to tackle my most challenging wiring project ever. I think it's gonna be OK.

Also today, wired this little American beech forest that I put together 2 weeks ago. 2 were collected 4 years ago and one was bought as a seedling 3 years ago. All have been ground grown since, and I had this suitable container that I won at a club raffle a year or 2 back.
I have several other larger beeches in the ground now, so this seemed like a good direction for these little guys.

And I finally started wiring this "East facing" exposed root Morris' Dwarf Boxwood. This and it's brother "West facing" will both be in windswept style which was already their direction when dug in my friend's garden last fall. This has taken weeks of trimming, cutting back and finding some sense of structure; the wiring will take several days.

Thank you so much @yashu for a wonderful and educational day! Here's some pictures of our adventure. It was 36 degrees fahrenheit, raining, and miserable and we loved every moment of it. Can't wait to get out in the woods with you again!
It was all my pleasure. I’m glad we found some decent trees!

Went on a larch collecting excursion today with @MaineChowder and came back with a whole bunch… this is one of them
