Styling Suggestions! Please!

I would simply get some wires on there, probably guy wires and spread the upper trunks apart then study it for a while like that. I think I still have a couple sideways pics from when I first started using an iPhone on the site though. So I'll never be any good at bonsai obviously.

Rusty nails, thank you for rotating the pictures. I believe it to be a buttonwood , however the nursery I bought it from does not have a good track record for labeling their products properly. Nonetheless, it grows and acts like a buttonwood. Again, thank you for rotating the pictures.

Thus spake one of the OAFs, methinks.

Bonsai is a quiet, slow, patient art. Any numbskull who is unwilling to post a decent picture of his or her tree, or to take the time to orient it correctly -- ESPECIALLY when asking for help with the tree -- can't (or won't) ever be a passable bonsai artist. He, she, or it, also is unlikely to get help from me.

I'm old, cranky, and have been doing bonsai for a LONG time. I have patience with my trees; not with idiots.

(Actually, I didn't go back to check and I thought the fellow who fixed the pics was the original poster in this thread, so thanks to him again (and YOU ought to thank him too!) while I aim both barrels at you, you ungrateful wretch.)

Remember? Your meds?

The facade is not necessary for people to respect you as bonsai artist. Helping young and inexperienced posters, such as myself, rather than berating them, may show a greater knowledge of patience.

I sincerely apologize for any headache my pictures may have caused you. Lighten up...This is supposed to be fun!

This is supposed to be fun!

And you can help make it that way. Thanks for the apology to one of us, at least.

I had a nice virtual for you before you got all defensive. I've zapped it now.

Nobody is on defense here. Sometimes, even elders need to be shown how to treat people. It's okay, both of my grandfathers were cynical rumps.

With regard to your zapped image, once again, I apologize for causing you the trouble. I will not beg for your help. Very sad considering others were kind enough to offer their advice without the BS.

I respect my elders but this is moronic. Bonsai is a quiet, slow, patient art. And cellphones are the epitome of loud, fast paced, impatient, aholes with blinking lights in their ears. Rotating pics is being a slave to the latter, and has nothing to do with bonsai. It is the opposite. But we must do it for You? The greatest bonsai artists who initially created hundred year old trees, hell 30 year old trees, didnt have this technology. Makes your passable bonsai artist comment a factless, mindless attack. Ficus that! Propogate that!

It took you longer to type this fertilizer than it would to turn your head, or do as rustynail did. Both barrels..... of Monkeys? You are a child.

Stay a slave to your technology. It wont help your attitude. Or your trees.

Feel free to apologize for not thinking before you post. The OP deserves it.
I apologize for continuing this, but I have no patience for contradictions.

Peep my avatar. Hahahahahahahaha.

Sorce. Of righteous. OAF, and mindfully so.

That was a bit incoherent. Want to try again?

This is not the first time someone has mentioned someone should take their medications. What is wrong with you? Sure some get tired of sideways pictures. I usually don't even look at sideways pictures because with all of the technology today
pics are still posted sideways. Jim may have been a bit harsh but he's right. I'm 50 and lord knows how old Jim is but we still manage to post pictures in the right orientation. My only problem is posting the pictures with the text. I forget sometimes. But they are still right side up.
Jim is right on another score. Bonsai is the art of patience. You take the time to put wire on properly? You take the time to make proper cuts? You take the time to let the tree recover from work? Try to take the time to post pictures right side up.
I don't take any medications and don't know if Jim or if anyone else here does but to make light of someone's health is reprehensible.

A lot of times I won't bother to really look at sideways pics either. To me, it just shows a lack of consideration for the rest of us. But to each his own!

Nice to find another thinking man or two.

I'll be 77 on Wednesday . . . and I'm afraid I take lots of meds just to stay alive, but none of them are for my temperament. My wife of 54 years will tell you I've been a crab for decades.

But you're right. If a fossil like me can get the pics right here and on the IBC, an apparent child like viabatron (sounds like a comic book villain) oughta be able to figure it out. Whether he has the patience to take the extra steps to do it or not is another question, 'cause he's a busy person and in so much of a hurry.

I'm pretty sure it's not a buttonwood. I had one for a while, and have seen quite a few at previous National Exhibitions, and the leaves don't look at all like the buttonwoods I've seen. Maybe if you post a close up of one of the leaves someone can identify it.

first I want to apologize for turning the pictures ,

congrats to JKL on making it to 77 that's a feat in itself these days.

i just wish we all could drop this picture thing and get back to the task at hand vaibatron tree issue what he need's to do with it.. also is this what we want to teach our younger member's like Rockwellbonsai that the older generation can't get along. i'll be 60 this December I would like to show the younger members that we as adults are better than this..

so please drop this and get back to the task at hand BONSAI..

Thank You have a good day.

That's all fine, and ideally people could leave out the obnoxious remarks, comments about meds, etc. But it's still useful for members to know that other members may not be paying attention to their photos if they are posted sideways...it cuts down on the number of possible responses. So take a little more time, figure out how to post them the right way, and don't expect everyone else to spend the time/effort to compensate.

To anyone that may still be reading this thread... Please just let it be.. I will never forget to rotate my pictures again. Lesson learned.

My comment about meds was not meant to be a malicious attack on jkl. I do not know him And was merely trying to make light of the fact that the conversation had become too heavy with nonsense over a picture! Jkl, I'm sorry if I offended you. I accept my part in the escalation and apologize. As RustyNail said before, can we please, if possible, get back to a conversation about bonsai.

Coh, any ideas? I knew the nursery couldn't be trusted..

I bought this one a year and change ago. Let it grow all last season in the nursery pot and has put on considerable growth after two large chops and a repot done in early June this year. Now... I'm stumped (pun intended :o).. Can't decided where I want to go with it. I will obviously be letting it grow for another year or two before doing any serious work. Just trying to develop a game plan! Critiques, suggestions? Bring it on!

I'm not as old as some of those that have posted here. I am old enough to remember that words mean things. I am wondering what is going on here.

The tree was purchased, (meaning the Op saw something in the plant that he wished to pay money for it)

The tree was chopped twice ( meaning the OP seen the need for chops in an effort to improve the tree, and then decided that chopping it again was also necessary to improve the tree.)

The tree was repotted ( meaning the OP seen the need to get the tree into better medium for its long term care)

Now the person is stumped after doing all the work to the tree, and probably ruining it much more than intended, and now seeks total strangers to help salvage the mess he has made. I would be very impressed for anyone that wishes to continue to help this person by starting a list of good points and bad points. That is how great trees are made. Looking thru my 59 year old eyes, I can't find one redeaming virtue in this plant for bonsai. Anyone wish to step up and start a list?

I'll take the rude old guys any day.

BTW, wouldn't it be a hoot if this turned out to be kudzu.

Look up buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) as a possibility; perhaps the nursery owner confused buttonwood and buttonbush.

I can assure you it's not. Getting into a tussle with a seasoned bonsainut member doesn't make me an idiot.

On another note I've seen other noxious weeds turned into quite pleasing bonsai.

This forum is way too caddy. Reminds me of a middle school lunch table.

First off noxious weed or not if you plan on moving forward with this material the base should be addressed first. Perhaps ground layering could help there. After that maybe chop lower to get rid of the slingshot crotch.
And one more thing. Catty is the correct term for this forum. Caddy is what we ride around in. He's also the guy that carries Tiger Wood's golf clubs. No relation to Vance Wood.
