I really don’t consider it a successful germination unless the tree makes it through its first year (but I’m a little excited at the prospect of growing one of these). Although the seeds were planted in July of last year, this little one appears to be the sole survivor and didn’t decide to reveal itself until this last month.
I sure hope it makes it through the winter.

I have a half dozen two year old seedlings in pots. I’ve found the same to be true about their speedy growth rate. I imagine it’s that much more pronounced if you plant them in the ground.
