Satsuki azalea, health issue?

It's medium-sized kanuma. I initially top-dressed it with sphagnum moss but that stuff dried so quickly that repelled the water. So ended up removing it just a couple of weeks later. Not the first time I experienced that with dried sphagnum moss, it's just not for me..

Anyway, I feel more comfortable being guided by the color of the soil to know when to water.

In relation to flowering, I was thinking on removing all buds and not allowing that to happen . I think I've read that recommendation for repotting year.

Definitely won't do much with the plant. I cut a lot of its roots and it needs to recover 😌

Thanks for your help, I hope it goes well and I can give it some styling in the coming years!

Great job!

Many folks prefer to see the color change of kanuma as a watering indicator. But I’ve found leaving the top of the media without moss dries the surface roots and slows the growth of an azalea’s nebari markedly. (I am of the opinion this is also true for many other species after four years of testing.)

Btw The best moss for quick growing is called mountain mosses or Yamagoke. It comes dried and needs to be soaked prior to application. When applying it needs to be tucked into the edges, nebari and then the rest of the top of the media. Treat after test has shown yamagoke properly prepped is the fastest moss to establish.

Yamagoke grows on its own. Sphagnum does not, it needs other mosses to grow within its framework.

Anyways, your tree, your choice.

Please keep us advised of its progress.

Cheers
