Projects

I shoot for every three years on rep-pots of smaller pines like this. With that being said, my record keeping sucks😬. I’m guessing I did it three years ago.🤷🏼‍♂️. For what it’s worth, a lot of the brick was soil from the original grower, before I acquired it like six or seven years ago. It was time to refresh the soil for sure.
I'm getting too old to not write things down. But you've been doing this so long the tree just probably tells you. :) Great looking tree.

Yeah, if it wasn’t for the calendar app on my iPhone, I would be completely unemployable and likely divorced😬. Anyway, this tree has been growing gangbusters the last three years or so, and the soil stopped draining well last year, so it was time.

It enjoys the Enchanted Mitten. Any larch projects on the horizon? Ahh, too many trees I just remembered. It would be cool to see you tackle a Larch though. Okay I'll quit messing up your thread. :)

LOL. All I said was you can't throw a rock without hitting a JBP in that pot, and you just proved my point. And you live in MI too! 😛 But you're correct I know enough about Bonsai to fill a thimble, and you probably forgot more than I know. I've reported this post to the authorities. They should be arriving at your location shortly. 🤣

Just out of curiosity, how do you usually end up tying down such a small rootball? I'm always nervous about wire scarring across the nebari after cutting back the roots so hard
I use the cage method where the rootball is gently but firmly wired to the pot on four sides. You’d be surprised that the wires don’t need to be cranked down hard to firmly fix the tree into the pot.

This one could be fun if it doesn’t die… rabbit chomped chojubai planted on a stone… first time making/using homemade muck with clay sourced from my backyard 😬. The stone bottom is touching the bottom of the pot and exposed roots May be a thing here too🤷🏼‍♂️

Not only is it not dead, it almost sort of kinda looks happy! Anyways, I have plenty of time to kill it down the road, but so far so good.

Years from now when I see this tree at a show I hope the display card has "rabbit chomped chojubai" on it. Looks great Dave. :)

‘Rabbit-chomped” could become a new training technique… and to think that it all started here in Michigan🤔😎😬!

I'm starting to think your maples and pines like Michigan more than you. 🤔 :p This is my normal weather, it's all I know, & I'm a product of my environment, and I don't have any fancy Georgia shorts to two step in. 🤣

Hey, do you only operate your snow blower wearing denim shorts and flip flops like my neighbor... just wondering 😳 😳

Weird neighbor warning! When I shovel I dress as a lumberjack, because I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night, I work all day. 🤣 Snowblowers are for sissys.

Did you winter any Tridents outside? If so, what's their status? I have leaves on JM & baby buds on Trident.

I actually winter most of my tridents outside on the patio. 4 winters without a loss or even die back.
