Hello Bnuts!

Today I started a couple air layers. (@ShadyStump you wanted tagging so here!)

One from an azalea on the front garden and one from a pieris. These are my first air layers and also my first of these two species!

Heres pics from the process :)

The bark was nice and easy to peel off this azalea!

Note the girdle getting bigger, scraping the cambium off wasn’t quite as easy as I thought so kept chipping extra bark off, whoops

And all packed up nicely

Now the Pieris

Had to scrape the bark/cambium off in one here, some parts would peel and almost looked like the cabrium was peeling off at the same time but most of the bark I had to scrape off, was a lot more stuck down.

All wrapped up!

So now we wait! I’m mostly doing these for the experience so not looking for the perfect branches, but if I can then make something somewhat nice out of them I’ll be happy.

Theres also this other azalea I may dig up but I’m not sure whats going on with it -

It used to grow forwards but not sure why its growing away from the curb now, nor why some of the leaves are this colour? Is this a sickly plant? I like it for its white flowers and the more lime leaves but if thats clorisis it something then please let me know 😅 all I have is a 20cm/4L pot, will that be big enough to put it in do we think? That's if its healthy enough to be dug up.

No idea what the trunk is like, think its buried under the surface and is just an odd clump now.

Excited for more projects and to be trying something new. Will need a new bench or two soon 😂

Air layers look good! Just check them to make sure they don't dry out is all. There could be sufficient roots this fall, but don't be in a hurry.

Someone else should chime in about the azalea. I don't have much experience there. Doesn't look quite like chlorosis to me, but what do I know?
Is there a utility line near there maybe? Gas leak or some sort of pest is my first guess, but take it with a grain of salt.
