I recently picked up a huge jwp grown from seed and about 45 seedling from a Japanese fellow who is been propagating jwp for over 30 years.

Is it on its own root?! It's a huge tree for a JWP if it's never grafted!

It’s not grafted. It was grown from seed about 30 years ago.

It’s more like 20 years old. The bark is still smooth down at the bottom. If it were 30 years old, it would start to be flaky. You can also count the internodes. I counted 18.
