Maui fires.

The trunks look good from the video and it is a ficus so I think it will survive. I am surprised there is not already a sap test on the limbs.. Ficus will bleed white sap if cut... easy test that don't really harm the tree

There was a little shop on front street called Dans Greenhouse full of exotic birds and schefflera bonsai. My wife and I were delighted with that shop when we visited and I hate the thought that it’s gone now. I picked up this tree at Dans Greenhouse and carried it around the rest of my trip in boat and plane. The little trilobite came from another shop on front street. It was a very brief visit but it’s one of my fondest memories of the island.

I can see why this tree living on in the community can help aid in the healing process of so much loss. Living through such a devastating fire can bring more hope and connection. This kind of reminds me of the time I built a life size steel sculpture of a dolphin that meant grace, strength, and beauty to the family. They had their house burn to the ground while on vacation and all that was left was their family (pets died) and seeing this sculpture standing from the rubble meant so much to them and getting past losing all their belongings and pets. I waxed the black soot on some parts to leave part of the fire in their new home.

Here is direct from the expert
Aerating the roots + micro nutrients and mulch. I love their plan going forward.
@namnhi could you update this thread if you see the update to this later please?
If he's interviewed on NBC Nightly News, I have that set to DVR, but may not see it if we're out of town.

Over 90 people are gone. From what is coming out, this didn't have to happen, or at least to the level it did. People were begging for infrastructure changes that never happened and it would have saved lives...

Update: the tree is going to be fine.

That is great news! This tree is such a great representation of life. My wife and I got to see it up close when we were on our honeymoon...

Terrific news! But I have a feeling the entire tree is probably not going to make a comeback. I suspect portions of it will, but other portions won't. Hope people don't expect it to be the way it was, only with new leaves.

There will be dead portions surely but as I understand with that species, in 5 years it will look good again.

An update on the tree
