Hello from Maui

If anyone has a July-Aug copy of Golden Statements there's a story of what I was up to with ancient Ohi'a. Metrosideros Polymorpha. Then along came ROD, Rapid Ohi'a Death.
It's been raining for a month. Soon I'll be back on Mainlandia Reconnecting with the Redwood Empire Bonsai Society. REBS. Champing at the bit.

No idea what you're saying.
For the Hawaiian PEOPLE....
“Kau” is native for the hottest, dryest period.

“Hooilo” is a native term for the Coolest Period..

You LIVE in a Hawaii, yes?

Like REAL Hawaii.. or.. the Hawaii where White folks built swimmin’ pools?

Morella is a species of Myrica faya, the scourge of this rainforest. Horribly invasive. It's taking over Hawaii Volcano National Park. Home of Pele.
Yes. Myrica is the old genus. It’s been recently reassessed as Morella. I mentioned it was invasive there. It thrives here from coastal areas to up in the mountains. Usually among the first to colonise abandoned and degraded plots. And pretty much the only endemic that is not threatened. Anyways, probably not the best idea to make a bonsai of it in Hawaii
