Hey tree nuts,
Last week I recieved this ponderosa pine yamadori from @arcina . I knew when I purchased it that it would obviously be a literati style tree. First off, here's pictures of when I acquired it.20170212_080438_004.jpg 20170208_101623.jpg 20170208_121204.jpg 20170208_101644.jpg
Now I had two options, bend it up and make it about 6ft tall, or bend down and keep it around 3ft tall. The choice was obvious for me, go down.
Working on my own was hard, so it tookeeps me 3 days total to stayed the tree. I applied VERY heavy raffia along the thickest portions of the trunk and branches that would be bent.
Well, here's what I ended up with after the first styling.20170215_100406.jpg

The mica pot with the bricks are to hold it up as we were having 50mph+ winds early this week. More pics to come.

One more shot of the tree after work.20170215_093437.jpg
I'm happy with the styling, but feel I'd like to bend the trunk more, almost parallel with the upright portion, and angle it to the right a by when I repot next year. I'd like to have the same feeling as this Walter pall spruce, but on a larger scale obviously and with a more cascading lower portion.spruce-bonsai-1684972.jpg
I'd love to here everyone's opinions on water I should do.

Thanks
Aaron

I probably like it more without the lower branch. The straight trunk then abruptly bend bother me a bit as well. Is it possible to plant it at an angle?
Nice shari on the trunk.

Wonderful idea. When studying this tree past weeks had not seen this option:rolleyes:. An Upright Cascade:p. Slowly bending can be added as time proceeds. May be wise to wait some months and see that it grows and survives well first. Congrats on a great deal;). By end of month will be getting another from Alvaro myself.

Sweet looking tree. I'd love a pondy myself but it's hard to grow here. It can be done, but will never be vigorous. Sticking with zone hearty trees mostly now.

That's quite the bend. I know some will hollow the wood or knotch the tree for big bends. Were you able to bring it down with no other support than the raffia?

Yes it was quite easy actually. I went slow with it as I didn't want the deadwood at the top to split at all, not a noise came from this thing the while way down. I was able to do very much the same thing on my other big pondy yesterday morning, https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/ponderosa-pine-yamadori.24866/page-2#post-425891

Employ the principle of using the green to frame your trees interesting features. In this case, a nice old trunk. Don't lead the eye away from it.
