Late Very cold weather incoming be aware!

can't like this.
The way I look at is like this.
Last time was a blow. I lost the jack pine Grouper gave me.
But as I replaced trees I got better ones.
This time around even better trees.
Most likely all conifers too.
That is normally the case... either you have zero eaten or all eaten. Sorry to hear this happen again on you.

On the weather note, the low this morning was 68. Will see 80 on Sunday.
Last time there were a few left.
There is a certain mugo though that I'm worried about hopefully it makes it. I poured not sprayed liquid fence on it and a few others at the first sign.
A large hawthorn I've had for 5 years though didnt make it. It did last time.
I'm sure all mugo and Scots and American elm seedlings are gone. That's over 200 right there.

Put these guys back up on the bench this morning… Two days ago it was 23° and these recently repottedTrees, despite being heavily mulched with leaves on the ground, were frozen solid. It actually looks like the leaves extended a bit further during that time :-). While I would always provide more protection for my better trees and smaller ones, you can see how well these guys did despite the cold. Many of these trees are tougher than we give them credit for.

I just moved everything back out. It looks to me like everything is fine but it only dropped to 28 here, far better than the weatherman predicted.

Your weather pisses me off. Just jealous, no offense.

I had everything in the garage for 4 nights and now they are all back outside with nothing but 50s and 60s daily highs in the forecast for the next couple weeks. Only a few trees are still dormant, spruce, hemlock, hinokis, but by the end of the week I expect them to catch up. American Larches now have little green shaving brushes all over them and I have another bunch of Japanese larch trees coming by Thursday. So far none of the repots have skipped a beat. Time to sift more pumice and break out the fertilizer—spring will officially be here in less than 2 weeks!

Now the question becomes, can I keep my trees cold enough long enough so that I can avoid having to do the bonsai 2-step too many times. Looks like we're going to trend back
to colder than normal after the middle of the month. While I hate that for myself, it would help a lot with the trees.

never had an issue with stuff waking up early, but this might be my year

Thursday it was 68 and sunny, right now it’s 33 and snowing

Yep...made it to 70 on Thursday (and it was glorious). Past two days have barely made it above freezing with occasional snow. Looks to be generally on the chilly
side for a while to come. I hate it but great for keeping the trees dormant. Did note the other day that one of the typical early birds (kiyohime maple) is pushing buds
but that's about it.
