this cutting from last year had the worst nebari out of all the cuttings, so i wired up a couple shoots when i repotted for later cuttings with movement. you can see they're starting to push out. i need to go ahead and prune back cutting #4.

got a second pruning in. i don't need ramification at the tips of these shoots, so i drove back in to the silhouette. I'm trying to keep these leaves decent until the fall, so onto the porch she goes for only direct morning sunlight until temps drop back under 90f.

growth is starting up again with cooler temps. cat stepped on this new shoot by the callus, but it backbudded fine.

The cutting you gave me is doing really well. Planting it over plywood was a really good idea because the base has thickened dramatically and the root spread is phenomenal. I almost want to grow the tree as is into a bonsai, thanks for the great material! And is that the beginning of growing a branch structure you got there? I would have probably developed at least three of your older trees into bonsai pot's or training pots by now if I was in your situation. Is there anything you are waiting on when it comes to trunk size or you just like growing out material 🤔.

I'm actually exploring ways to build the look of a specific type of multi trunk like in this college of pics off the web - 20250824_155221.jpg

this cultivar gets a thick, strong look to it as it ages and doesn't lend itself well to lithe, graceful forms. after the chop heals I'll probably try a thread graft up around the middle. as far as trunk size and all, i just go off a feeling. art is subjective, so just go with what stirs your loins 😄
