What went wrong/how do I recover? I left for the weekend and larch was perky and normal. To prepare I put in in slight shade and drenched it with water. It’s been in the 60s recently but while I was gone it hit 80 out of nowhere in NYC for one day, is this from the rapid temp change or over watering? The soil is already dry so it was only soaked for like 40 hours max

If you’re leaving for a weekend you have to insure your trees are watered while you’re gone. It’s a hassle and a pain but as found weather can stress things dramatically in your absence. You got lucky here

Larch are thirsty trees. Next time you might think about placing the pot in a shallow container filled with water up to about an inch above the bottom of the pot. That will be fine for a couple of days for a larch.
