And my new crab apple.

The crab apple needs repotting in spring and adjusting angle a slight bit. Also it needs a lot of work on branches, but i will do that over the next few years after enjoying the blooms it will give me next year.

I think This will be the new front on my crab apple as it makes the most sense.

But should i adjust the potting angle a bit aswell or leave it similar to what it is now.
I may sink the nabari a little more in the pot aswell but i will decide that at repot time

Like the crab, did you just repot it? I think I'd try to get the old soil off the rootball in the spring, but leave it alone till then. Maybe get rid of the wrapping root if you have enough other ones and can cut it off.

Na its not been repotted for a long time. According to the nursery it was imported i believe from korea. where it was grown so god knows what the soil around the rootball is like. it had alot of nasty looking topsoil and abit of algee so i removed the top layer and just put some new topsoil on top untill spring then i will repot it and adjust it

If you cut some roots on repotting, you can use root cuttings for propagation. They are easy to bud and grow.

Nice! I want a maple in 2018.

Hi there i have done all the research i can, ive brought books, watched videos and read all the blogs i can.
But for me to keep developing this tree i need pointing in the right direction. All my other maples are all quite young and very much in the development stage so i brought this tree to enjoy a more advanced maple and learn that stage of development and refinement required for it.
So to put what ive learned into practice can some one with years of experience please help me out and point me in the right direction on maintenance and development, as i would like to make the most out of this tree going forward.

I suppose i just need reisuring that the knowledge i have learned on refinement and timings and all other aspects on keeping this tree in good shape and to keep improving it over time and will help develop this tree correctly over the next few years.
So any advice from all you experience people out there on this tree will be most appreciated, Or even what you would do in time to improve it.
As this will help me make the right decisions for the tree in the future.
Here are some pics from all angles.

The twin trunk maple needs to be chopped, right about where it takes a little jog to the left, then goes straight up for three nodes. Those internodes are WAY too long for that high in the tree. And straight, too. Remove, and build a new apex.

Yeah the blue line will mean i can keep a bit of height and just improve the top taper and still grow a bit more height back.
On the blue line there are already 3 branches that could take over the leader or maybe it will develop more buds at the cut point.
The yellow line will work aswell but i would not be able to put height back on the tree and would have to build the height at that height. But that could still work.
What time of the year would be best to carry a chop out on in the uk?

Maybe this is gonna be sth you don't want to hear, but wow... The first picture of your maple didn't attract me. But the first from your latest post did. From this point of view it's completely different tree. Wide base... Doesn't have to be seen as a twin trunk, the second trunk can make a first branch and very naturalistic look.
But it can be only sth in my vision, sth I miss in my collection?
