Mine are not moving at all, they just have the 2 basal leaves and aren't growing. I've been holding back on the lighting based on your feedback but now I'm wondering if I'm using too little...

I've been fertilizing maybe twice a week as well with Schultz All Purpose 10-15-10 Plant Food Plus. When I had mine directly under the LED lighting they struggled and didn't grow much at all. After I moved them to the shelf below and provided some fertilizer they are starting to take off now.
Post some pics so we can see what they look like.

Mine are not directly under the lights either. I haven't fertilized at all, so I'm thinking that you're probably onto something there. I will try to take pictures tonight. The leaves are pretty tough to see.

Mine were slow to produce new leaves after the first set of true leaves emerged. Seems like mine have spurts of growth with long resting breaks in between each growth spurt. Soon I will transplant them into individual pots as I want to get them outside to harden up.

Yep Mark and I have both been perplexed about this and have discussed trying again. It’s worth giving it a go.
However timing and space allocation, given the new crop grow as well as yours is getting to be a premium. The number of Satsuki cultivars I’m growing presently will result in an awful lot of cuttings!
I’m thinking of putting the present tray outside to keep it in play as an alternative.

I know exactly what you mean about space. I have several hundred azalea hybrids growing here........with more cuttings planned this summer after my satsuki's bloom. Hopefully we can trade cultivars we each don't have

Nice! It looks like that later trays are bursting with growth! Very well done @Pitoon ! I'll be interested to see them hardened off and in the landscape, if that's the nest phase in this experiment?
Regretfully my seeds trial #2 never sprouted. Not a single one. Ugh.... this from someone who sprouted seeds in Antarctica on a ship!
As a result Mark is sending me new seeds and we are going to send 1/2 back to him for a simultaneous sprouting effort. Investigating if the PO might be doing damage to the seeds enroute.
Other then that, enough of the whips made it to do some experimenting, after my recent landscape effort is over.... another ambitious spring. Also getting ready for a radical pruning and training of first year bonsai satsuki. It will be interesting to see how many flourish afterwards!

@Deep Sea Diver the seedlings have greened up a lot, but slowed down on growth. I need to transplant them which I'll probably do next month. I need to order some small pots for this step. I doubt i'll put anything in the ground this small as it would easily get lost here on the property.
I'm also curious how your whips will do after the pruning.
I have a 'Chojuho' that's in bloom right now. I've collected some pollen to start crossing as flowers begin to open. Hopefully I'll have some seed to share this winter.

Mine are up to 3 or 4 leaves on some but still just 2 leaves on most. I will be getting more aggressive with the fertilizer.

I finally got my mini pots to transplant, weather permitting I will start next week. If anyone is looking for mini pots with matching tray and a daisy tray to hold everything PM me.......tray holds 28 pots shown in the pic.

Success! Harunabu sent me a new batch of seeds on the 28 of May. We hypothesized that the former batch of seeds were da maxed in transit, so Mark put some padding in the seed card this time.
On the 29th I sowed the entire shooting match. I used the exact method of prepping the materials as in the previous trials.
The seeds of each cultivar sprouted by June 4th, more are continuing to sprout since.
Seems like the data shows the first batch was most likely damaged in transit. Now to document the progress over time.
In the mean time I’ve already started taking cuttings. I’m running at least 3 trays of 36 pots with 3 - 5 cuttings this season. I’m adding some other non satsuki cultivars that would likely be made into good bonsai into the mix . Mostly I will only take summer to late fall cuttings, rather then year around.... except for the odd stray! It’s funny, yet the Oct and Jan cuttings seemed to grow the fastest. Go figure!

I am culling the herd slowly but surely now to get them doggies down to manageable numbers.
Now starting to spray with weak fertilizer.
Also using the LED light 4 hours a day, at intervals.
btw Big news… no noticeable fungus and no fungus gnats! I’ve always added a squirt of hydrogen peroxide per quart of water and that sends to have done the trick so far.
I intend to harden the remainder off in September.

Thinned the Herd a couple weeks ago. The dominant seedlings are just about to bud out the third tier of seedings. No fungus.
Presently giving these seedlings six hours of light using the small LED multi wavelength light on a timer. Used the light over six weeks. The timer is set to give 1/2 hour intervals of light and no light. No noticeable whitening of the leaves using this method.
Also weak fertilizer spray 2x a week. Have cover off during the day and spray once. Let these open to the air, then spray and close em up for the night. Goal to harden these off in a couple weeks.
