Candle with double candle growing at tip, what to do with this?

Ah yes thanks, I do use my scissors to "pluck" not actually pulling, it's just the term that I am used to using. I have had several other JWP over the years, and have never had one do this before, most of mine put on refined needle growth each year... I do just what you are saying in the fall, so I will just have to avert my eyes until the proper time to reduce this mess.

I though you had JWP in the past so I figured you probably knew already....sorry

can you try to attach the sealant photo again please?
Here is a better photo. Available from Jonas @ Bonsai Tonight, or Kanishen. Well known and used by many professionals. When doing larger cuts must wipe very thinly or thicker scar tissue will form. Particularly on maples! The cost is usually around $20-$25 USD,
What do the two of you suggest for fertilizer regimen after I do this work seeing the tree being so strong?
I would stick to your regular routine, if that includes a bit of a boost in the fall prior to dormancy! The tree seems very healthy and vigorous. The fall boost just to help encourage stronger bud set for spring!

Thank you again, I’m feeling better with the plan now, I was struggling with deciding what to do.

The tree looks great, the growth is expected with proper care. As we spend more time with each individual tree we become more comfortable with what to expect and that allows us to detail and adapt our work for the particular situation. As opposed to following a calendar and basic guideline. I usually start with the question " what is my goal here? and then move on to which approach at this time or is it best to wait? The key deciding factor usually ends up being will there be a problem created by waiting? If the answer is yes I proceed as safely as possible ( less is often more) when out of the normal time lines. Otherwise if no problem will be created I always wait for the best time. On the basis that trees respond best when vigorous and the work is performed within the " better" time frame.
Keep up the good work, it is very encouraging to see your quality of trees on the site!

It's a great-looking tree... I'm learning a lot from your experience too!

Bjorn has a great video on single flush pines. I have no first hand experience, since they don't fair well in my zone, but I have seen Ryan give a similar advice on his streams.

Excellent video from the Pinus stud himself...😁

So I spent a few hours with the tree today, I feel better about where I am now with it. I should have posted and asked a couple weeks ago, but felt stuck if you know what I mean. I appreciate the help that is always here and ready to give advice, I should know by now to just ask for help, lol... I know it's still a mess, but light is able to get into the interior, and there is plenty of strength in the tree. I did very little cutting of candles as a whole unless it was all the way back to another candle, mostly reduction of needles. Got rid of lots of the 3rd year needles, that opened it up nicely then reduced all the strong ones to 5-6 bundles, and less strong ones less, weak ones left alone. Hope for the best!
