This one bloomed already, you will have to wait untill next year to see the flowers. I suggest you post a specific thread for this azalea. For info @Deep Sea Diver posted an excellent article in the resource section.

Post blooming. Those are seed pods forming.

The fastest way to thicken an azalea is to plant it in the ground in an appropriate location…. given it is hardy for that location. You need to know the type of cultivar to know if it is hardy.

That said, do you not have have a name of this cultivar? We can’t tell from leaves and it’s likely it will be iffy once it flowers as there are too many azalea flowers that are similar and resources are slender.

Cheers

Thank you! I’ll try and find out. Have updated my location. Vancouver BC. Will a big pot help as I live in an apartment?

Heads up. This thread is for posting azalea ID photos not about in depth issues and questions.

For that, please start your own new thread about your azalea and copy in your previous data. Then folks can respond to specific for you as the OP @Pitoon recommended.

I’ll be glad to help you there. 😎

A true dwarf. “Rukizan” (American name)… or the Japanese “Kazan” ….sometimes called Kazan 1 as it’s the first of the two Kazans shown on the Satsuki dictionary.
They look completely different!

Good for people looking for a small Bonsai Satsuki!

I thought I’d relay one information note about multi patterned azaleas, including satsuki, just for everyone’s future reference.

The whole realm of multi patterned flowers in azaleas often does not show for a number of years. An azalea expert friend of mine says it often takes up to five years in his experience. As a minimum... when some cultivars are grown out in size to put out over 20 blossums... or about 3 years if left to grow out.. He relayed an outlier instance of a cultivar taking up to 13 years to finally show its true colors!

Interesting.....so it will take several years for the blossoms to mature to produce the patterns. I wish Mark still had access to the site to hear what he had to say.

I took cuttings when I first got the plant, and all those had white blossoms this year with a couple of red speckles here and there. They're about two yrs now.
