I'm having trouble with brown spots on my azalea leaves. I've included a photo. Trying to do my best with watering, etc., but would like to know if applying a fungicide is necessary. I try to stay away from chemicals whenever possible.

The one time I grew azaleas, this is what they looked like if I forgot to water. The dead patches rot easily, but it doesn't mean it's an infection of live tissue.

Drought damage will be on the tips:

Note that drought can also look different if the whole plant wilts, insulting stems and it shrivels up.
Or if the entire plant is hardened off, and it all turns orange while staying firm.

Sounds like me and my experience with my azaleas. I hate chemicals...period !!!
But there is a place for it.
Something is eating the leaves, and you have to spray something.

Those brown spots can also be a sign of OVERwatering. They’re due to roots not being able to transport water and nutrient to the leaves because roots below ground have been compromised-withered or rotted. Check the roots and soil. That is where the issue probably is

I get this to...every year. Its not because of over, or under watering. Its some critter nesting and feeding off the leaf sap.
In the photo it shows the damage is mostly on isolated spots at the side of the leaf.
I just took this photo of a leaf that shows similar damage this past season. Its mid winter here now.

I usually spray something for general insect and mite pests. The one I use now contains tau fluvalinate as active ingredient.
No need for a fungicide here.

Doesn’t look like under/over watering or over fertilizing. The leaf tips are unscathed..

@fredman that leaf looks like an out of season leaf with either fungal or bug damage or both. This case looks like physical damage. So bugs, handling or maybe fungus.

Try watering or misting the foliage with a good spray once a day… but ensure the leaves are dry by sundown.

Haha...maybe I didn't make myself clear enough...its a language barrier thing.
That's exactly what I said (or meant) in my post above.
It is definitely not fungal. Its a pest nesting on the leaf...while feeding off the sap. All it needs is a contact pesticide spray. Neem oil also works well for me every year.

Sorry, yeah I got that mentally, but my fingers didn’t 😉.
