A Fagus sylvatica, European beech. The shape is too triangular to my taste, I'll try to develop a more rounded canopy:



A Zelkova that has already lost a lot of leaves while others are still green:

Here's a Japanese maple from a seedling. It's unusual in that it has survived 30 below while in the ground. I dug it from the garden last spring.View attachment 166187

That's impressive for a Japanese maple to survive those temperatures. Are there others in your area?

Larches turn pretty late this year.
Not the quality of most on here but i like Larches.
1st and last larches are collected.
2nd is Katsura
My maples just kinda dried up and died this year... not much color.

This is just a tree in the grow box; but is this cause for concern? Last year the leaves just dried up when green and falls off. Now, it looks like frozen fungus or something. We did have 2 nights in the low 20s last week.

I'm not a fan of variegated pattern at all but thought this is pretty neat since it's white and not the usual yellowish.

On a side not, I also have a 2 year old seedling from the same mother tree grown from seed and it is still green with speckles of orange and red. And it sits next to this one all year.


Here's a close-up. Like leaf cells got frozen.
