American Painted Pot Motifs

I think where you would wind up running into aesthetic issues is combining western cultural themes with eastern pottery styles.
People see a certain shaped of pot with a certain style and associate it with Asian culture, whether or not it's actually peculiar to that region, just because that's the context they're accustomed to seeing it in. Throw on a North American motif, and now it just feels weird.

You'd almost have to limit yourself to uniquely American pottery styles, of which there are few appropriate to bonsai pots. At least to my knowledge.

Pots emulating hopi woven baskets maybe?

I'd like to see some native American pottery designs transformed into bonsai pots. I have already begun using this concept for the Native Tree/Native Pot challenge.

It'd be nice to see more of this stuff out there. All I ever see are cheap terracotta knock-offs made in China.
I don't know much about pottery, but I do know that much of the REAL, ORIGINAL indigenous pottery back in the day was all low-fired because it could be used as a cooking pot on a fire that way. I suppose you'd lose some bit of the authenticity firing the stuff to the level we'd be looking for to withstand years outside on a bench.

Yes, I'm not using a real native pot. It's a bonsai pot that is designed to have some characteristics of a native pot. It was actually a succulent pot that I asked the artist to add proper drainage and wiring holes to. I also had her color it to be somewhat believable.

I have not yet created a thread for the Five Year Native Tree Challenge, but I will one of these days. My main concept is that it's a Chumash bonsai. The Chumash survived off the Coast Live Oak acorns for over 10 thousand years in my area, so that's the tree I plan to put in it. My point is, I think it fits within the spirit of this thread, which I'd love to see more of.
