2023 Fall Colors Pics

Drizzly day, but my wife was working and I needed to get the kids outside.

Took them to the pond I played at when I was a kid (about a 1/4 mile through the woods from the house I grew up in).

They were a little sad the frogs were already hibernating. At least they saw some beaver houses. There used to be a smaller pond from a dam the beavers built, but that was blown out during hurricane Bob, and flooded a couple houses down stream.

Panoramic with my blurry kids and their grandfather (my dad) on the edge.

Another Trident, but not the leaves this time - following a mid-summer hail storm, many of my trees leaves were left looking pretty miserable. (No long term issue, but I didn’t want to defoliate most of them, so the leaves are ugly).
But, the seeds on this one are changing color and looking interesting to me.
I’ve no experience with Trident seeds, so I’m waiting to see when they’ll drop - next spring??

Is this an air layer? How long it takes to get that corky bark?
I only purchased the tree about a month ago, but my understanding is that it was originally an air layer. I’ve heard that it takes years to get the corky bark sometimes. This tree was put in the box specifically to reboot it

I like the pure yellows on my little Yama Nishiki from Mr. Maple. Apparently supposed to be orange and red though. So far it feels like a stronger, prettier tree than Higasayama.

I don't know about stronger, but maybe more likely show variegation. Seems like my Higasayama grows at least a foot a year. No fertilizer. My Yama Nishiki was red, but only a couple leaves were variegated this year. Still very young.
