2016 US National Bonsai Exhibition

Maybe the next one, we can carpool!
Maybe. By the way the tamarind is looking like it's got some new growth again and it's not so large this time. So it's certainly doing well after that potting!

Whoa! First time I've ever seen any with fruit!
I've got a white chojubai which produced one small fruit earlier in the year, some kind of critter stole it. But it's flowering again and setting fruit similar to the ones in Bill's photos. Maybe it's the local climate? I don't have red at this time.

Here are a few pics from day 2 of the set-up. I apologize in advance for the poor quality. My camera is old and failing...it doesn't focus very well anymore. Almost decided against posting but people like photos, so here they are.

By midday all the tables were up and covered and the first trees were being placed:

Trees waiting in the staging area. It's kind of like the taxi-ways at O'Hare airport.

Another view of the staging area. I think the sweaty backed individual talking to Bjorn is Boon, maybe @Adair M can confirm :)

A few of the demo trees waiting for their makeovers.

Vendor area gradually filling up. Already lots of great trees. Even saw an oak. Who was looking for an oak?

Another partly blurry shot of the vendor area. Sorry about that!

Oh, I already have my eye on another tree. I don't really need a chojubai.

I sold a tree earlier to "make room" for another.
You don't really "need" a chojubai??? Too many already or stuck with a chub in the pine aisle?...

A lot of beautiful trees were already here and set up. Interesting to find my wife in one of your photos helping pinning the table aprons, she is the woman at the far end, Irma is the other lady helping out. The guy talking to Bjorn is Boon.

I'll have to look for you this weekend. What are you showing? Ficus? I'm guessing just based on what I've seen on your blog.

Banquet ticket available?
Family emergency has de-railed my plan to attend. Hope someone will be able/allowed to use my ticket.
It's paid for.

Hey, Bnutters united in America, win and show us some trophies! All these exhibitions have their fantastic atmosphere, enjoy it.

Just a Q, why only the 5th National exhibition?

I attended the Ist National Bonsai Exhibit back in October, 2008. They are typically held every 18 to 24 months.

Just got back from the Exhibition. All the trees were placed and Bill was kicking people out so the judging could be done, so I figured I'd beat the traffic. Beautiful show. Lots of trees. Lots of big trees. We spent several hours rearranging trees so everything could fit. I took some more photos that I'll upload later, if any of them turned out OK.

Have met Adair and Sergio, saw Vance's and Stacey's trees. Looking forward to meeting some more bnutters over the weekend. Don't forget to pick up your orange dots at the entrance.

Chris

Safe travels! It would only be noteworthy if you were on the Cross Bronx and NOT stuck in traffic...

Sundays before noon Ive flown through there.

Now...stuck in construction traffic south of Syracuse
