Oh yes, as I said "it stopped me dead in my tracks." I didn't know that it had won an award until almost the end of the show. I was listening to Kathy Shaner's last critique and when she was about done, I asked about the birch...that's when I found out it had won. Her opinion on the tree (paraphrasing, I don't recall her exact words) was that it was unpretentious, looked very natural like it was standing in a field, and that was a big part of its appeal. She also thought the pot was the perfect size/shape/color and was a big part of the look. I think the fact that it was already showing fall colors helped.
