Azalea bonsai I receieved as a gift from John Geanangel several years back after attending a workshop. Still the only Azalea in my collection. I still have done little to no work to it. It shows out year after year. This either shows that John is a massively talented practioner of the art of bonsai (he is) or that maybe I shouldn’t avoid growing Azaleas as much as I have since I started the hobby (possible). Regardless, enjoy the flowers!

Looks like a nice Chinzan! Tennessee is a great place to grow azaleas.

… but is begging for attention this year. Good time to bone up on technique on this one. Chinzan tends to be very forgiving.

Cheers

Nice job, Clay!

I finally got around to cleaning it up some. Had a lot of dead branches and moss entirely covering the trunk. Nice afternoon with a toothbrush and shears.

Here is how it looked:

And here is the final result. Since I’m not terribly familiar with Azaleas I just did a general cleanup, removal of dead branches, and trim to basic shape.

And finally the glamour shot.
