I agree with not bringing family into threads, but it wasn't meant against her. It was merely a means to make a point. The point I was trying to make is...If he disrespects people so much here, how does he treat those close to him when things don't go his way?

You have no idea about me in my personal life. Many here do. I have been doing bonsai a long time, in a state with a wealth of material, shows, fine exhibits, a national Federation of bonsai, and like minded people that do bonsai on a higher level.

You need a reality check, how long you been here? Will you answer the question? probably not, because that hurts as much as not having a tree to post. No one wants to be the new guy here. I was a first here, asked by Greg to come over from a failing bonsaiTALK, from a failing bonsaiPAGE, from a failing GARDEN WEB, from a failing IBC, from a failing Art of Bonsai, from a failing bonsai study group. The list goes on and on. Hell the first forum I was on was in the infancy of the internet and was a list server because templates for discussion forums didn't even exist yet. I have been a part of all of them. You know what they all have in common? The same thing as here, people that don't know shit and don't have tree worthy enough to showcase their big mouth. Is that your problem?

Don't take out your shortcomings on me because I'm convenient. Step up your skills and get in the game and stop crying.

I aquired the tree in 2018, and it’s been doing really well in my garden:


It’s needing to be repotted next year. So, I’m thinking of changing the front to something like this:



I haven’t decided for sure. It might depend on whether the root ball will fit into a pot in the new orientation.

Better trunk, the other one is not very good at all. This view has fluid movement, the other front has a big long pipe!

The thing that really annoys me is this whole tub thumping exercise is nothing more than a dick swinging contest designed to abuse and discourage people from seeking out like minded individuals on a hobbyists website. It is harassment and abuse. Bigots may not see that, but if I have second thoughts about posting my trees because of the threat of being bullied by a member because they don‘t meet certain “standards”, then that is an abuse.

I’d report him for this whole thread, but you know, he invented bonsai and his acolytes have been lost the last few months having no one to worship, so.....

The funny thing is not one of those 20 trees posted made me stop and look for more than a few seconds. Seen it, skip, done, done, copy, paste etc. Best after 40 odd years? Joke.

I think you should post them anyway if you like your trees and enjoy them. You may get criticism that doesn't feel good on something you like, but you may also be inspiring that quiet beginner by showing him trees just a few steps beyond what he is doing and help him figure out how to get there. In my experience, it at first felt bad to have someone not love a tree I was proud of, but typically once I sit down and give it good thought, it helped me create a better tree whether I followed the advice or not. Magic happens when you're pushed past comfortable. That being said, now I'm just bummed out when I post trees and nothing is commented one way or another.

I like that front much better, Adair, I think it shows the branching better. I know what you mean by the root ball orientation, I have several that I would like to change, but hesitate to do so because the I don't want to remove that many roots.

I haven’t seen you post this tree Woocash. So your just a care taker or is it yours? Yeah I def see the flaws, but being an elm you could do a lot with it! I’d love a look under the skirt. Do you have any leafless shots? Elms take ground layering really well and if you start it now, you could have aN entirely new nebari/root system to cut to by next season. I think you’ve shown through collected material and your commentary that you are capable of anything you set forward for your self and I’m glad you posted this tree up. And just to slightly buck the theme of this thread, check out post #14 and #15 of this thread Right here. You could easily do this technique to your elm without messing with the root ball with success.
