Wire scars or just the way it was bent

Speaking to the "authentic", I read somewhere awhile back that a JWP fetched $1.25 million or more at auction a year or two ago. YIKES

The famous Scube tree? You see a pic of that thing? The price listed was well over $1million, but I don't know that the final price was disclosed...

Adair pretty much summed everything up. Basically, most of the pines we get here in the states are what Japan doesn't want. Also, no, those scars are not considered pleasing or ok. You will not see that in higher exhibition quality trees. Like mentioned, we get the lower quality trees.

In time, those scars will almost disappear. Perhaps in 15-20 years. Both my pines came from New England Bonsai. Both are grafted white pines from Japan. I probably went through hundreds of white pines to find a couple good ones with potential. However, even these needed a ton of work. Here is one as purchased and then 3 years later. There were no scars on this one, a good trunk and nice branch placement.

Rob, your tree is really looking good!

Next time, pot it a tad lower in the pot.

I think I found the artist behind that tree.

Lol kennedy. Hows that for a sense of humor Smoke? I Love it!

I read they leave wire around root over rock in Japan too.

Smoke, is there wire already "in" those trees? How long?

I wonder what would happen if you put a charge in that wire?
Maybe we can achieve a natural lighting strike feature this way. Half joking.

Thanks. I agree on the potting. However, the tree couldn't be repotted lower at that time. The original planting angle had the tree leaning almost completely forward. You saw half the trunk, then there was the top. All the branches you see now are due to me tilting the tree far back. This made the front part of the root ball stick up quite a bit. This is also just a grow pot. I hope that in about 1 1/2 more years, I can get in there and work the root ball again and maybe get it into a shallower pot.

Rob...your tree looks stunning...compared to the tree they are asking close to a thousand dollars for...the other material is chopped liver.

Thank you. They have some great material. However, it is like all nurseries. It is best to be there in person, if possible. This way you can look through all the material. I think I found this tree because I was working at the nursery that season. I was taking the wire off all the imported white pines and came across this one. I thought, I think this one is coming home with me.:D

Also, I believe I paid around $450 for this tree.
